Wouldn't buy it if it cost $1. Sound and build quality sucks.

You may want to consider either the Cherry Bomb Vortex or the Hooker Aerochamber for your V6. I have experience with both...

I had a Cherry Bomb Vortex on my previous 1999 F150 V6 2WD shortbed reg. cab. For the money it was a good sounding muffler. Authoritative on acceleration, but not stupid loud (which frankly on a V6 is never a good thing, it'll never rumble like an 8). It was a smoother, fuller sound than a glasspack or God forbid Fartmasters.

I was a huge fan of the Hooker Aerochamber. It wasn't on an F150, they were on my 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GT, and they were mean. Motor was a 3.8L, so smaller than your 4.2L, but they really sounded awesome on that car. And the build quality was intense. Thick steel, good welds, and the model I had was factory painted or powder coated black, can't remember, but it held up. And again, the sound was mean for a V6, almost beastly!

Either way, I personally think for a cheap but good quality sound your better off just buying a muffler like one of these and going to have a shop slap it on. I don't think I'd recommend something like Magnaflow Magnapacks or Borla Pro or a similar straight through for you. Unless you are looking for more performance than just some nice sound.

I prolly woulda said that, being in the V8 world and knowing what a 6 does sound like when someone adds an exhaust that just isn't right, but I was there once, and I understand where he's coming from.

My Gibson Super Truck Exhaust rotted out in less than 4 years....before that happened, it sounded good when I opened the throttle.

Thanks guys for the real valuable info. The stock is getting up in age and was looking for a good replacement. Nothing fancy. I have been told that V6 does not sound (regardless of what muffler is on it) like the V8 , so will check stock or something like the ones mentioned above, that looks good.

Thanks very much.

I don't think it's that it doesn't sound good, just different. When I had my V6 F150, I enjoyed the sound alot, it was mild, but smooth. But I also understood it was a 6, not an 8, so I wasn't going for loud rumble. Quite often, people ask how to make their 6 sound like an 8...well really you just can't. And when you put a loud muffler on a 6, the result is that yeah, it might be loud, but it sounds like podunk boocrap. You can however achieve what I believe is a respectable tone by using a milder setup. Like I said earlier, the Vortex was a nice setup for my tastes. It wasn't overly loud, but had a smooth...how to describe it...almost warm, full sound. Nothing over the top, nothing like my current exhaust on my 5.4, but good for a 6. Either way you go, good luck, I'm sure you'll find something nice.

Understood and thanks. A warm and smooth sound that does not drone inside the cabin would be very nice. Question: The link you posted only shows the muffler. What about the tail pipes. My stock comes out on the passenger side before the rear tire. Do you think a local muffler shop can do the rest?
Thanks in advance.

Replace the factory muffler with a 14" Dynomax Super Turbo muffler.
