why no tune on Gotts?

As the title says... why is it everyone says you have to get a tune when running a CAI or you will potentially run lean, yet many say to go Gotts and you won't need a tune? Isn't the idea the same, allowing more air into the motor, potentially causing a lean issue and throwing codes or worse?

I am by no means an expert but this is just an educated guess. Maybe someone else will let you know I'm wrong but from my understanding the gotts mod does not let more air in, it simply opens the intake to make it easier on the motor to suck in the same amount of air. The gotts does not ADD horsepower it frees up horsepower if that makes sense. Again I could be wrong.

I've read here several times that with the 04+ motors, you can open up the intake or free up the exhaust without issue, but if you do both, then you must tune.

And the factory system (modded or stock) is a CAI. Doing the Gotts mod simply removes restrictions of the factory design, and maintains the cool air intake from the fender well -- unlike some "CAI" kits that sit a filter in the engine compartment -- You'll get basically the same results from spending $10 as you would from spending $210. More noise, and a slight improvement in fuel economy/performance.

With the gotts/ dwv snorkle removal mod, a person is not changing the orientation of the OEM location of the maf sensor. With a CAI it changes its location of orientation to the air flow.....

So 88 when u change the location of the MAF is the computer thinking that its letting too much or too little air in and tries to compensate by adding more gas? That makes sense. So I was wrong in the reason why no tune needed.

it's not only the orientation of the MAF, but MAINLY the DIAMETER of the inlet ducting where the MAF is

freeing up the inlet tract while not changing the diameter of the MAF housing doesn't require the mod as the ECM can still adjust properly as it's getting the correct readings for the stock diameter ducting

Besides changing the tube diameter where the MAF resides (thus changing velocity at any given engine RPM / demand) ...
... CAIs typically relocate the air filter and change it's design as well.

Gott's Mod or a store bought version like the True Flow 20502 only changes the inlet tube, leaving the MAF and air filter and housing unmolested ....
