Cheap Exhaust Upgrade

Just bought a 2005 f150 FX4 4x4 5.4L triton V8 and i was wandering if there was a way to get better sounding exhaust just buy changing the muffler, or if there is another cheap exhaust upgrade i can do to get better sound.

I'm looking for a semi deep roar when i take off but something that's quiet when I'm idling.

Any suggestions?

Direct through mufflers like Borla and Magnaflow have a melow low deep sound when accelerating and relatively low noise at idle. You might want to listen for the different sounds on youtube and read the Exhaust Guide on this forum for a better informed decision. The muffler can be purchased online or local authorized dealer and installed by your local muffler shop as a replacement to your OEM. If drone in the cabin at around 1800-2000 rpm bugs you, there are a couple of companies, like Corsa (my preference) and Dynomax, that guaranty no cabin drone using some quite interesting technologies.

May I suggest a Borla Pro XS muffler swap, and a nice tip. A nice, deep, mellow growl with low interior noise with stock cats.

So many choices. Do you want a mellow tone, an aggressive tone, a trashy tone?

Somewhere between mellow and aggressive, but not droning while using cruise.

I do like the sound of the borla pro xs though.

Either the Pro XS or a Magnaflow 11" oval body.

Excellent recommendation, I was going to say the same.

They all sound like good suggestions.
I'm leaning more towards the borla xs though.

Since someone mentioned the dynomax bullet earlier i figured i'd throw this video up here. This should give you a decent idea of what to expect on the inside of the truck http://youtu.be/z0GXJGk5cA4

All i did was replace the muffler like you are saying. Drone is minimal and only noticable at 2000 RPM. I'm not trying to make up your mind for you just figured id try and be of assistance. Good luck with your search

I'm happy with my Magnaflow Magnapack in place of the factory muffler. Added a 4" tip for aesthetics and I love the set up. Throaty but not too load and no drone.
