Yet another exhaust question

Hey guys,

This is my first, of many posts on the forum. My wife and I just bought a 2011 FX4 with the 5.0 last night.

I am looking to put an exhaust on the truck to add some low end torque, gas mileage and some nice sound. Since I am not 21 anymore, and my wife will drive the truck some time, I dont want a system the drones or is silly loud. I talked to my guy here and he recommends a 3" SISO magnaflow setup. My only worry with this is that it will be too quiet.

The Corsa cat back seems to have a really nice tone to it and doesnt seem too loud at all, but also doesnt seem too popular. Is there some negative about the Corsa that I am missing?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks for reading!

Oh so many options. Check out you tube to find the sound that you like. Borla, Magnaflow, Corsa, and so on. Then we can try and dial a muffler in for you. Corsa kits are very expensive. The most cost effective way to do this is to order a muffler and tips online, and then have a shop weld it up for you.

Thanks for the reply frog.

I do really like the corsa sound, is there anything even close? I have read the Exhaust Bible, but i dont really see how a sido could out perform a siso given that the tubing were enlarged on the siso. In fact, i would assume that having a sido may hurt performance due to some turbulence in the muffler. In practice, do people really see a larger power/torque/mileage from sido over the sido? Its been a long time since i had a larger displacement motor and I could def be missing something, lol.

Regards

All I know is that before I added my SIDO Flowmaster 40, life and death passing situations for my lil 4.6 would drive the RPMs skyward. Since adding it, along with the Gotts Mod and a few other add-ons, my tranny shifts smoother and I don't have to put my foot completely through the floor to quickly get into passing gear (floorboards ain't cheap to rebuild, ya know? I seem to have a good bit of punchiness that wasn't there on my stock muffler and SISO exhaust.

I'm not gonna lie to you like the muffler companies do and tell you my 4.6 went from 248 horses to 315 or 35 MPG with just a cat-back set-up, but I will say there is a noticeable difference in my truck before/after installing a SI/DO muffler.

There are many options, and everyone's likes are different. Borla, Corsa and of
course Flowmaster (amongst others) make terrific products--now you just have to choose what sound you like best. Happy hunting!

You will not gain any performance with a muffler swap alone, or a cat-back exhaust on the 09+ trucks as the OEM exhaust is 100% unrestricted in bends, joints, and the muffler is direct flow. All you will get is an exhaust note improvement.

SI/DO and SI/SO do perform exactly the same, but the SI/SO has an advantage of holding velocity better since everything is untampered with after the Y pipe.

That isn't always a good thing now.

With your nice brand new truck I am sure you want nothing but the best and of best quality for it. For a cat-back, the Corsa would be a fantastic choice. T-304 stainless and hardly any drone at all. No huge honking tips and a aggressive toned exterior only sound.

Please read Arklight's Corsa exhaust review thread thoroughly and ask him questions.
