Driving with no intake

What would be the top concerns about driving without an intake tube running to the fender? If I was to just take the tube off my stock intake could I run into any problems? I have had it off out of pure laziness for the last week, and have been monitoring my temperatures. Cylinder head temps, coolant temps, and everything are fine. I also like that it gives the engine a little drone when giving it any amount of gas really.

Well clearly im not going to get it from you. People on here cut off the silencers, there are small holes on the bottom of the stock intake tube, and the fender hole can let moisture in. I am just wondering if there is anything specific I need to look for. It still has a filter on it, its not just a throttle body.

You are now sucking in hot air...

Put the stack back on with the Gotts mod

I had the gotts mod, but the hot air I am sucking in is not all that hot. I monitored my temps and they are all the same My IAT went up slightly, but all engine temps are the same

Do what you want then, your asking questions to something you can answer yourself...

Not something I would personally do...

If it were mine, I would leave the intake tube on...

Go sit in some traffic, see what your IAT's are then...

They raised up to 108 on some days when my trucks outside air temperature thingy was 103. It really doesn't get too hot under there. I just wasn't sure if there was an issue with anything other than slightly warmer air.

Sounds like you want to keep it that way..

So keep it that way..

But your truck will perform better with the stack...

Or a proper intake...

There is no data to show that the truck will perform better with or without the intake to the fender, but plenty of supposition on the topic.

For the 97-03 MY, there were quite a few FIPK's that had the filter open under the hood of the truck.
I had one myself that was a K&N tube to the throttle body, and a johnny lightning performance filter attached to a MAFS adapter plate.

With the testing I was doing on FIPK I found that an increase in IAT when stationary happened, but once the truck was moving 30mph, the under hood temp normalized to the outside air temp.
The temp in the fender itself also climbed when stationary, so an intake to the fender, as not to suck in that "hot" engine compartment air, was pulling in similar hot air when not moving ( within 3* if memory serves me correctly )

Here is the thread on the topic
https://www.f150online.com/forums/v8...take-temp.html

Same applies to the material of the intake tube, metal, or plastic I found it made no difference in the IAT temp.

The one thing I will point out, same as when installing a FIPK you need to make sure of what the AF is on the truck.
The '04 + MY started with a lean tune, and any changes to this could push it further the wrong direction. Don't know if you changed the element with the intake draw point change or not.
Just something to keep in mind when doing intake changes to your truck on the factory PCM load.

No real concerns from not running that fender piece. IAT might be a bit higher, but that's about it.

Its basically a home made JLT intake, as long as it has a MAF sensor and filter it will work. Just maybe a pinch warmer. How with a Ram Air hood...... oh boy.
