2011 5.0 magnaflow exhaust too loud

Well i finally got my dual exhaust put on. I went with the 14" maggie single 3" in 2.5" in out 45'd out the back. I also had the resonator removed. To be perfectly honest it sounds great and has a beautiful sound but is just louder than what i was expecting. What do you guys think would be the best thing to do to tame it back just a bit? Would a magnapack before the muffler work?

thanks for any advice
Matt

put your resonator back in or install a dynomax bullet along with the magnaflow

Matt, is it too loud inside or too loud outside (or both?)?

I have been considering the same muffler for my 2010 FX4.

Thanks!

It's too loud on the inside. I got it done yesterday afternoon and when I went to pick my gf up last night we got about 100 yards down the road and she said " What did you do to your truck? are you 16?" haha. I said "I hate to say it but it is too loud."

I read and listened and read some more and thought this was the route that i wanted to go. Like i said it sounds absolutely awesome, but if i was cruising at 70 down the interstate i would probably want to shoot myself after about 15 min. It's pretty loud at 2000 rpm which is where my truck is at 70 mph. The weird part is it seems louder with the windows up than with them down.

I am 28 and love good aggressive sound. I love my music loud, but this just gets annoying.

also, and this is just my opinion, but the 5.0 sounds like garbage above 4000 rpm. Granted I hardly ever get it up that high but it makes me cringe when i hear it.

thanks for the input migdaddy, I'm gonna go back to the exhaust shop this morning and ask him about it.

Matt

as close to the rear axle as we could get it.

and to update everyone...i went back to the exhaust shop this morning and had a dynomax bullet installed in the same location as the resonator would be and now it sounds perfect. It keeps the nice tone but knocked a couple dB's off.

In retrospect a 18" bodied maggie probably would have put me where i wanted it but I am extremely happy with the end result now.

also adding the dynomax seemed to cut down a little on the rasp in the higher rpm range. Couldn't be happier!!

Replace it with a larger magnaflow muffler.

He just likes wasting peoples money , na he probably just skimmed over your post. Glad you are taken care of now, Glad to hear a Magnaflow sounds loud on these trucks finally. Wish I had a 5.0 or definitely a 6.2!

Your drone wasn't anything like what I dealt with though I'll bet, skip to 6:15.

Just a quick question. How does the sound output vary from the new 5.0 to last years 5.4? I have the 2010 with the 5.4. If the OP claims this muffler was too loud for his liking on the 5.0, can I expect similar results on mine? Might make my decision a bit easier. Thanks!

haha...its ok...i have to be careful when i read stuff or i do that alot!

I know there are a lot of contributing factors to how loud an exhaust is and the tone it produces. When i first bought my truck i had the stock muffler removed and replaced it with a 18" SI/SO 3" maggie. Well after driving it for a couple thousand miles with that i decided that it just didnt sound "truck" like enough for me. So i went to my local exhaust shop and booked an appointment with him. He actually had a 18" SI/DO there but i was set on the 14" so he ordered me one. It only took me all of 100 yards of driving it down the road to decide it was too loud. I was the last appt. of the day and they closed up shop after i left so i had to wait till the next morning to have the bullet installed. Now, at least to me, its perfect.

The exact setup is as follows:
starting at the flange in front of the resonator
3" pipe IN/Out of the bullet (12" body length i believe)
3" in/2.5" out of the maggie (14" body)
45'd out the rear
Maggie Stainless Steel 4"x 18" 15 degree slash tips

I can post pics if anyone wants to see them but i dont have anything to record any vids with but could probably find somebody willing to help me out there.

DARRENWS6 you should hear the drone in my truck. 2004 f150 true dual straights with the back 2 cats cut off, 45'd to 5x18s....

but it sounds amazing so i guess its worth it!
