Need some help on picking air intake

I am a newby to this site. I just purchased a 2005 FX4 Supercrew and I am looking for some advice on what cold air intake to get. I am looking to get some more horsepower and better gas mileage. I'd like it if it sounds nice when you really stomp on it. Only looking to get the intake now and possibly exhaust down the road. Don't want it to be really noisy. I know I could search all the threads but i'm currently in afghanistan and internet is really slow. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

#1 - DO NOT PUT AN INTAKE ON YOUR TRUCK WITHOUT A PROGRAMMER AND CUSTOM TUNES WRITTEN FOR THAT INTAKE. Your truck already runs lean from the factory, With the intake, you will run Super lean.
#2 - Search GOTTS mod. Simple, $5 mod that is a noticable improvement in acceleration/mpg.

I have k&n and wish I didn't. Waste of 230 and mine has a high pitched whistle at certain rpms. Wish I would have done gotts with a drop in air filter. Save money and better product.

Save your money and spend it on something else. A good tune will do far more for you than the air intake. Exhaust is basically the same. Only helps at wide open throttle, which you are not in very often. It does make it sound much better, but don't expect some performance gains.

Skip the CAI. I tried a Volant. It gave me some power, but was running extremely lean. I pulled it out and did the Gotts/DWV mod with a K&N filter in my stock box.

Your safe with an Airaid Jr setup. Looks better and flows air from behind the headlight. I put it in a 2005 back in 2006 and it's still there. No problems.

I ran a Roush CAI. It ran lean after 2 days, unplugged the negative battery terminal. The computer relearned itself and never ran lean ever again. Installed the Edge Evo CTS and it still hasn't ran lean. The intake gave a much deeper sound, looked amazing in my engine bay and I lost the ability to churp the tires (325/65/18) at a dead stop but the higher end I gained power. I don't have any custom tunes... yet but that's yet to come.
