Gotts mod question

I have a 2006 F-150 XLT with the 5.4L V8. I've been reading about the gotts mod, and I hear people say it runs lean on some trucks and not on others. Some people say it didn't help their truck, and some love it. I would like to try it out. My question is: Can I do it to my truck without it running lean or any other negative side affects??? I've read that it shouldn't be done on '04 and newer trucks, and I've also read that it's fine. I just need a definite answer, preferrably from somebody that has done it on their truck.

And should I put a K&N filter in to replace the stock one?

I did it on my 05, and, I've not detected any harm at all. Bill Cohron at PHP says that since there is no change to the MAF sensor environment, it CANNOT make your truck run lean. You CAN use a K&N drop in filter instead of the stock filter, but it's not necessary. If you do though, be very careful with the oiling.

By oiling carefully I assume you mean oil lightly so no redidue gets sucked into the throttle body?

If you over oil it both the TB and MAF become caked in oil over time.....both are important for your truck to run its best.....

BTW when and if the MAF becomes caked/fouled this can cause the pcm to interpret the data wrong and cause other codes in the system.....cause it can't sense the right air flow....

No. I have tunes for my 2010 from PHP and Troyer Performance. Both can run the Gotts mod, but don't need it.

The tunes don't need the mod or the mod doesn't need a tune?

I'm still waiting for someone "trustworthy" to tell me what gains this mod actually achieves, if any.

Bill at PHP removed the stock snorkle which is what you do with the Gotts mod, and on a dyno, saw something like 7 or 8 hp, as I recall.

Do you know if that was on top of a tune or bone stock?

I've got an 07 with the 5.4 and I'm wanting to do the Gotts mod also but it makes me nervous to see different opinions on whether it's safe or not.

I don't think I have seen anyone say it was not safe and if I trusted Bill at PHP to tune my truck and he says it is safe, then that is good enough for me. I'v had the Gotts mod for about 50,000 miles on an engine that now has 121,000 and still runs great, uses no oil.
