Will unhooking the battery clear the code?
Yes, but it will be right back on in a week or so.

Is using a programmer or going to a dealer to have the code cleared the same as Clearing the code by unhooking the battery??

Just not sure if you meant just unhooking the battery to clear it will only turn the light off temporarily and not really clear it.

Im going to the shop tomorrow where i got the exhaust done to have them clear it and also check for any exhaust leaks they may have missed that could possibly be causeing the error code.

Since its only showing bank 1 error code and not both sides I figure its worth a shot.

Went through my 1st tank of gas and was surprised at my MPG since I have been getting on it pretty good this week after the exhaust install. I got 16.1 MPG which really shocked me since my highest MPG since owning the truck was the week before when i got 16.2.

Ive normally been getting between 14.5 - 15.5

I put a toneau cover on it 2 weeks ago and looks like that definitely helped as well.

Haveing the shop, dealer, or hand held tuner just clear the dtc it can come back. You use the hand held tuner to tune the truck and have the person doing the tuning turn off the rear o2 so the dtc won't come back. It's what people do that remove the whole cat do. I guess you only see it in bank one because that sensor might be slightly off. You could clear the dtc and see if it comes back. It might not...might take months...might take 5 min.

To my understanding, yes. I use my programmer to clear my code when it kicks on. I've done the same with unhooking the battery. You can get a tuner to turn it off completely from what I understand.

Can I still pass emissions tests with the rear cats turned off?

That I don't know. I would suspect that it's dependent upon degree of emissions testing that is peformed in your area.

I have passed several times that way with the rear O2's turned off. You will automatically fail if you have a code stored or CEL on though. I'm in IL and they simply do the OBD II port diagnostic test.

And yes, clearing the code with a programmer and disconnecting the battery will accomplish the same thing. I'd say talk to a tuner to get the rear O2's turned off. It sounds like it is triggering a code because the O2 sensor wasn't placed in the correct proximity to the cat during the install. I had Emico hi flow cats installed on my truck a long time ago before I got into superchargers and all this tuning stuff. The exhaust guy knew that O2 placement was important, and I never threw any CEL's or codes while I had that setup (rear O2's still on).

This is the first time I've ever heard of getting CEL's from 94106 cats. There has to be an underlying issue that has lead to this.

Punisher, you had your 94106s put in right after mine didn't you? Around 12/09. You've had duals the whole time though? I can't figure out why mine started throwing codes as soon as I got my duals. Not one code until the duals. Could be placement of the 02s due to duals. Could be 2.5" tubing. I think I am going to just chat with Bill Cohron on Monday morning and explain to him what it is doing and see what I can do to fix it. I don't care to pay the $30 for a revised tune if I can get rid of the check engine light.

Maybe it has to do with the 5.4? How did you guys have the O2's mounted? Were they welded in the pipe after the cat or welded onto the cat body itself?

Mine were welded onto the new pipe about 2" behind the cats tube exit.

Just got back from getting the code cleared and there was also a small leak at the 02 sensor bung that they fixed. He said he doubted it was enough of a leak to throw the code.

I'll let you know when and if it comes back on.

when you disconnect the battery, the computer will have to cycle thru several drive cycles to clear the P1000 code that indicates a recent computer reset.. You won't pass if they see that code when they check.. They'll tell you that you need to drive around more to clear that code and then you can retest..

This is so you can't just clear a code, as like was said above, it'll just come back if there is really something wrong with a sensor or whatever..

They even check the gas cap here... If it fails, so do you! Then you have to get a new gas cap and retest..

Good luck! Nice setup however!

I'm glad we don't have all that testing here in Louisiana. My mustang has long tubes no cats and not much of a muffler....I just have to pay an extra 10$ for inspection because my tint is too dark lol.
