460 exhaust

im buying an older f150 that somebody threw a crate 460 big block in to right now its open headers and not legal. I want to get this one legal so i can use it to get to the deer lease and back in to keep miles off my good truck, I was thinking true dual magnapacks high flow converters to 4 inch tips. I think it will sound bad ***. Is there a better route i can go? (i tried youtube but can only hear wind noises and tires rumbling no exhaust. Also what gas mileage can i expect out of this thing? i was thinking like 11 on a good day going downhill with a tailwind.

why would you put converters on a 460?? they are pre emissions no cats neeeded. make sure you use 3" true duals those are huge pistons and valves let that motor breath.

i know someone who shoved one in a bronco and had 3" true duals with cut outs and then dynomax ultra flows it sounded sexy.

i love the sound of a 460.

Gas mileage?? it had 3lbs pistons!!! is it FI or carbed? you can expect prob 8-10 on carbed and if its OBD II with a FI motor maybe MAYBE 15mpg at most if you stay out of it.

but the second you hit that skinny pedal it will go right back to 8 lol.

Big blocks are fun but get ready to feed it.

texas laws say it has to have converters. its a 91 model f150 the engine is FI i was expecting bad gas mileage so anything over 10 sounds good to me but i doubt ill be able to keep my foot out of it.

Thats lame. you could get those fake converters. or do you do a sniffer test??

FI will be a lil better than carb. but the big thing is keep your foot out of it. but dont expect much over 10mpg its OBD I so you cant tune it.

Throw a Lincoln mark 8 fan on it and ull get a few more MPG's and ponys.

3" true dual is a must.

i knew someone who had 2 1/4" true duals on a 460 it sounded ANGRY he put the full 3" on and he said it made night and day diff in how it ran.

By someone threw in a crate motor, do you have the 600 horse carbed version? Or is it a stock replacement 460? I have a 650hp 514ci and true dual 3" is a minimum size, but you can get away with a dual 2.5", high flow cats and a good set of mufflers with less than 400 hp. It is a good sounding engine though. MPG's? Mine in a 4000 lbs car and 3 speed tranny gets probably 8 at best, the older FI truck engines got maybe 11 at best, they are hungry buggers.

yea i don't know where you guys are coming from suggesting true dual 3" on a stock 460. If his is a stock efi he doesn't need any more than a true dual 2.5" exhaust. now my friend has a true dual 3" exhaust on his 460, but it's also making 500hp.

The last 460's made only put out about 230-240hp and just under 400 tq. not that much in stock form.

Ive went from true duals on my truck to 2 1/2" y to single 3" with a single chamber flowmaster with a turn down it sounds great and and the throttle response is much better and its a big block so you dont really feel a diff on the big end, but mine is a 429 out of a torino, so it breathes pretty well, as far as fuel mileage forget about it, when i baby mine i can get about 10, but if i even look at the skinny pedal you can almost watch the fuel gauge go down
