i have an 03 4.6 and i have right now 2.5 exhuast to the back with a chrome tip with a flow 50. its just not loud enough for me. i want to keep it a single exhaust, but how do i make it louder? i open to ideas

i was thinking about running a 3in pipe to the muffler, then runnig the 2.5 out to the back, but idk...i just want it deeper and throatier (idk if thats a word lol) sounding when i get on it, the 50 just doesnt do it..i have a stock motor with no mods

btw i live in cali so it needs to pass emissions

or also do all 4.6 engines sound the same? like the 04-08 sound the same as 97-03?

I have maggie high flows and a flowmaster 40 and its loud as hell....especially on a cold start, it sounds beastley.

 

the best thing you can do is put a 3" Y pipe in place of the OEM one, run 3" piping into a magnapack or bullet, 3" piping out into a 3.5" or 4" tip. You cant touch any cats since your in cali.

I too vote for the 3" Magnapack.

As long as your 2.5" after the 3" muffler is dual tails you will be fine. I would not run 3" and neck it to 2.5" unless you wanted some pop rumble and strong strong low end torque bite.

The 4.6L is the exact same setup from '97 - '08. Well, '97 - '10 actually, the 2v. A Boring engine that never changed from Triton Modular motors.
