cross over or no cross over

In a few days all my new exhuast parts will come in and I had a few questions. I have a 2001 4.6 supercrew with a siso dynomax bullit. I will be installing true ss duals with two dynomax bullits, but I will have all four stock cats for now. I ordered a x pipe to connect the two but the more Ive been reading the more I am feeling hesitant. I want it to be really loud and scare everyone that hears it but I also dont want it sounding like complete crap. I was completly against no crossover but I read that it gives you more of the v8 sound. I was also reading that the x pipe will make your exhuast quieter but gives you a little more power. Then the H pipe from my understanding is kind of inbetween the two and just keeps the pressure equalized in between the firing of the cylinders. Is the x pipe worth the minimal power gains, also about how much power does the x pipe give you guys.

Thanks in advance for any help.

H pipe will create the sound you want. Itll be choppier vs smooth from an X

I was kinda in the same boat as you when I did my true duals. I have a 2002 5.4L with all four cats still. I ran 2.5" true duals with bullet mufflers. I went with the x-pipe based on recomendations on this site. My truck has a good smooth tone as a result, which sounds pretty good.

I often wonder how it would have sounded with an h-pipe instead of the x, but not so much that I would change it out. I'm curious to hear how yours will sound with the h-pipe.

My truck isn't very loud due to the four cats. The only way to get it really loud is to start addressing that issue. If your serious about being really loud, then you really should consider eliminating one set of cats and replacing the others with hi-flows. Just a thought.

You really need to start hacking off cats to get it loud. The stock 4 cats is a really sound killer.

H= crack and pop
X= smoother and better tone (IMO)

The H pipe is a "little" louder in the higher RPM range, but both sound better than no crossover! They both will give you more low RPM rumble over no crossover. I have had all 3 configurations with the same mufflers, and I won't have anything but a chambered X from here on out.

That is duals for you, not the X. It would be worse with an H.

I'm currently looking at an '08 FX4 screw lux, If I get it and decide to run true dual magnapacks, i'll try it without a cross over to compare it to my current X pipe system, sound wise, backfire/pop, and torque wise.

Pic of the rigg if anyone wants to peak, but I do like not being too deep in the red debts..

It is a FX4 Luxury. So its got the black leather, power front seats, moonroof, the darker headlamps, Supercrew 6'5. They want $31,995 for it and its got 20,900 on the OD. I threw a deal, $28,500 for it since its an outdated body and powertrain, and warrantys about done, and $12,000 for trade in for my '04 with 102k on the OD, as is except stock wheels & new tires, and Gryphon removed.. Not throwing that money away for wheels/tires/programmer that can go in the next one.

Except I will switch tails and a ton of LEDs, and I really dont wanna let the '04 go with the painted Roush grill.

Hmm never heard of an fx4 luxury

Mine has moonroof, power SEAT (lol) supercrew 5.5, rear backup sensors

Id take all my goodies back as well no way would they get my rims/tires, gryphon. some mods would have to be sacrificed.

They want 31,995-12,000 = 19,995 before tax&fees

id offer them your trade in and offer 16,000 on the truck. put a couple down as well. Theyll turn around and sell yours for roughly 19-21 and if it doesnt sell theyll drop it to 17k
They probably paid 18k for that truck on a trade

Never heard?? Are you joking?? The FX4 Lux pkg has been available since 2007, it basically makes the awesome FX4 into a luxurious Lariat with the FX4 l;ook and capabilities + more. Everything PTM ( grill, handles, bumpers.. ), two tone available, dark headlamps, moon roof heated power leather, 6disk mp3 audiophile, radio controls on wheel and all that jazz.

Someone would need to be high to sell my '04 with 102k miles for $17k . $13k tops, according to KBB. If I was to sell it myself I would ask $11,500.

If I offered them $16,000 for that '08 they would laugh until they cried. Maybe if gas does go up to $5.00 per gallon and they never sell it by then, well anything could be possible.. Its worth about $25k - $28k. 3yrs old with a warranty about to die, and in need of a serious detail ( swirls )

If my plan works with the numbers i'm willing to work with, and given that my finance percentage isn't high like it was when I was paying for my '04 ( i'm under 25 ) after its a done deal I will surprise him with $8,000 down pay at signing .

Anyways, seriously off topic, my bad, but you can keep the convo going in the profile if you would like, hoping I can get that truck!

No no 16k plus your truck lol or if you already got that nvm

That would be my offer if not ill go elsewhere. 32k on a used truck is a bit much, especially one that isnt a diesel

Mine came with:
fx4 package, skid plates, tow package, 20" fx4 rims with pirellis, 6 disc mp3 player with audio plug in, electric seat, moon roof, power windows and power sliding rear, 5.4 with 3.73 rear end, 5.5 bed, ptm bumpers, grille, door handles and key pad.

We got it 27 before negotiating monthly payments and downpayment. AND it had 8 miles on it.

Dealers are shifty man, theyd sell it about 8 more than they give you and slowly drop it week by week it doesnt sell. Itll be listed at like 15,998 and theyll go was 20,999! and someone will think theyre getting a deal.

Good luck on the purchase!
