Exhaust questions

I've searched all over the net about exhausts, only to come up with threads that lead to arguements and bantering nonsense.

I really want to know the facts about exhausts.

Will torque be lost if I go with a 3" SI/SO system behind my 4.6 2v?

Should it be a straight through, or something that will create disturbance with the flow???

I've already tried welding a muffler into my stock system. The guy at the shop where I had it done was going on about how I'd be back at his shop bitching about torque loss if I went with anything bigger than a 2 1/2" system.

So instead of having to spend alot, he said try welding in a muffler.

I had it back to him with bitching nieghbors. It was a spin off muffler equivelent to a 40 series flowmaster.. I ended up getting him to just put it back to stock.

Then I tried a thrush dual system. I had the muffler alread a 2 1/2" SI/DO. I made it into a super truck style pipe out behind the passenger tire.

Well, I'm getting sick of it. Its so loud. And I'm questioning myself about this torque loss and all the myths and facts....

Someone please tell me....

What is the best SI/SO exhaust setup (no true duals) I can go with???

And will a bigger dia make a bigger differance?

Thanks

You might lose torque by using chambered mufflers, but it's so small that you can't notice it. They do sound like crap, but you won't really notice any losses.

You also need to tell you neighbors to **** if they don't like your exhaust.

Will I lose torque going to a 3" size pipe with a SI/SO system?

I'm thinking a dynomax turbo exhaust

Is the 1/2" worth it it?

Or should I use the stock pipe?

There is no point in going to a 3" pipe if you keep the OEM Y-pipe.

Do yourself a favor and get a Bullet instead of a super turbo.

3" is the biggest i'd run for a single exhaust, it's what i run on my 96 f150...unless you have some built 460 like one of my buddies, i wouldn't go over 2.5" for dual.

Also, punisher has his own opinions on the sound of the chambered mufflers. A VERY strong opinion on them. Mine though is that they sound good, but depending on what it's on. watch some vids and see what YOU like. but yea don't go with a turbo theres no point to that one.

I actually really like the sound of my Thrush pipe.

Its just not something I want to hear everyday. It is very loud. It sounds like I have a much larger motor than i do...lol

I just want something functional. A SI/SO And not ridiculous loud.

No tip even.

My 2002 4.6 was so much quieter... What did they do to make them so much louder now?

So what if I weld in a 2 1/2" stainless magnaflow.

How loud is that going to be?

Put your stock exhaust back on with a Dynomax Bullet instead of the OEM muffler. Its simple, sounds really good and isnt going to make your truck sound like poo. Leave the Slowmasters for Chebbys.

I just really don't want a drone.

The cab noise with the trush is bad... Not on the highway, but just under light acceleration...

Magnapack.. My dads 5.4 has no drone just a gnarly growl under medium-heavy acceleration. Cruising and light accel is very light.

Take off the tip(s) and see if the drone goes away. Tips are the megaphones of an exhaust.

I have no tips. Its just the pipes.

Here is the exhaust.

I don't want anything flashy since it would stand out on my none flashy truck.

I was going for an old school look.

Its just got this drone. But it sounds awsome when my girl drives it past the house....

I'm considering the advice on the magna pack. I just want the economy that is its.

I already had the Thrush muffler. It was pretty much an experiment...

A single Magnapack might be good. I can't tell if drone would be too much, because I'm not you.
