should I make a heat shield or leave it alone?

I put together a 4 inch intake for my set up and looking at where the filter sits i'm not really sure i could spend the time to make a heat shield. filter is crammed next to the radiator overflow tank and cruise control module.

what do you guys think?

That is not really going to make much of a difference while your driving down road. It will get cooler air regardless.

If you live in a hot climate (90 degrees+) and do alot of city traffic I would build one from the standpoint of not to cool the air but to protect the plastic intake from possible heat distortion.

I recommend a shield or you may ingest water in heavy rain.

The aluminum was getting hot so I put the foam in there as an experiement to see if it would stop some of the heat from getting in and it seems to work. I would feel the filter and intake pipes after driving around and they would be hot and sence I put the foam in there the filter and intake pipes feel nice and cool.

But did it lower your intake temp?

If you don't have an inter cooler the ambient air temp is the least of your concerns...
