OBX LT & Cat's
OBX LT & Cat's
So is anyone running the cat's that OBX sell's with there long tube headers? I have an 06 F150 KR, 5.4, 4x4. I already have a Magnaflow SI/DO cat back and I don't want it any louder than it is now so I'm thinking about using the cat's & Y-pipe that comes with the OBX headers and using the cat back I have now. I also did the air filter snorkel mod a couple of days ago, so would I have to get a tuner when I do this? Will it really be worth the bang for the buck? The truck is a daily driver so I don't want to get carried away with this.
I will be running OBX LT's with true duels and 14" maggies, but I don't know how loud it is gonna be. I will tell you after christmas. I have talked around with some guys and they think 4 high flow cats should do the trick in keeping her quit. Idk if any anyone else can chime in?
IF you dont want it louder, then DONT get long tubes OR get a much, much larger muffler like 22" or bigger.
I have the long tubes and resonators, it's ridiculously loud with 18" mufflers. I will eventually get high flow cats and 22" muffler installed if I dont trade in or sell the truck first.
Keep in mind, I've heard from sparkteckmotorsports that the cats with the OBX long tubes are just as good as the magnaflow high flows. I opted for the resonators, but if you are looking to not go louder, definitely don't get long tubes.
You should get the truck custom tuned for the headers as well and to take the most advantage of the long tubes, get a dual exhaust with x pipe instead of the y pipe and single maggie.

BLFX4K,
I do understand the long tubes may make it a little louder, I just don't want it to be obnoxiously loud. I also understand the x-pipe and true duals would make more over all HP but I'm not really looking for that. This is an every day driver that rarely see's off-road use. I do pull trailers fairly often so what I'm really after is better throttle response & more torque so that is why I was thinking about going with the OBX headers, hi-flow cats & Y-pipe with 3" pipe to the SI/DO 18" Magniflow muffler. If I do the headers I will definately get a tuner, haven't decided which one as of yet.
Thanks for your reply!

Stick with the gryphon tuner as get custom tunes to tie it all together. The gryphon gave me a whole new truck compared to edge.
Little louder is a BIG understatement. My truck went from being semi deep with a 14" raspy Maggie before the rear tire to bring a smile on anyones face that's never heard it before like making a grown man giggle like a sissy girl type stuff he's so excited. But It's too loud.
Get the x pipe, don't think hp, think torque. You want torque go 2.25" piping all round after the headers/cats. There's your torque. Mine is 2.5" piping from the headers and feels a little torque deprived and sees a few open runs every couple days and is my daily driver. The first time I was in someone elses car and my lady drove the truck home cause I was drunk, it scared the hell out if me and rumbles whatever is next to me. Legal, no, sound good and loud, yes!
