Cold Air intake

I recently bought a new K&N CAI. I bought it believing the myth of more power and gas mileage. I have heard a lot of friends say that it helps gas mileage considerably. Well, my experience is telling me different. I am currently getting WORSE gas mileage that I was before. I won't lie, I love to play with the gas pedal more now than ever (but I did that before!). I bought part number 57-2556. I can feel the power increase, and the towing is better, but normal driving I should be getting better gas mileage. Any advise?

you NEED custom tunes for the CAI. With the design of the MAF sensor, your actually seeing a lean condition at WOT. Canned edge/sct/whatever tunes will not help. If your not willing to pay the money for those, sell the K&N and search this forum for GOTTS MOD. It'll cost you 15 bucks, and is your best bet for an intake mod.

Hi.

Plese refer to some useful linkies to info in my siggie.

Yer Washoobi will require MAF TF correction. Additionally, this type of intake incurs a performance penalty over the stocker with Gotts Mod, due to elevated IAT's ( which can result in pulled timing by the PCM to protect the motor under certain conditions ).

To be absolutely safe it is best to reinstall the stock intake until it's properly accounted for, imho.

Lastly - keep in mind it's only giving you 2-5HP, maybe, tops, and only @ WOT - so as a bang-fer-buck mod it falls very far behind a custom programmer. Best to just ignore the BS Marketing hype from K&N or any other intake manufacturer - the claims are hugely overinflated.

Not what you wish to hear - but I ain't gonna sugar-coat it.
