Cheap ideas for a true twin pipe exhaust

So Im trading my 240sx for a 2002 f150 with a 4.6 auto 2wd.
I want the truck to sound good while gaining some hp/tq and also staying on the cheaper side. I was thinking making a custom exhaust with the pipes coming off the cats and both going into a single muffler then spliting back into two pipes after coming out of the muffler. Now will that give me the same sound as a x pipe? and would that still be a true duel pipe?
And how much do you guys think exhaust pipe would total up to be? I was thinking about doing 2.25 diamiter and a 90* exit but I'll do what ever is cheaper, I dont need the pipe to last for ever because I dont plan on keeping it more then a year.
I tryed searching but I couldnt find anything and I didnt know what to search for. And I will also be doing all of this by my self

I've never heard a truck with a duel in duel out with a muffler. But I've been told a prochamber midpipe (pretty much a duel in, duel out muffler) for the mustangs is suppost to sound like an h pipe with the gains of an x pipe.
So.... are you planning on selling your truck in a year? Or new exhaust in a year.
oh, and read the sticky at the top of this forum. it has a good bit of info.
And a Y pipe would probly be your cheapest route.

Yes, that would still be true duals. Just be sure to buy a DIDO muffler with an internally built X-pipe. I don't think it sounds as good as a pair of SISO mufflers and a standalone X-pipe, but it will sound better than most SIDO's.

If you don't plan on owning this truck for more than a year, don't even waste your money. You would end up spending $500+ and nothing to show for it down the road.

Thanks for the responces, I guess I wont be making a exhaust.
But I wasnt talking about a duel in and out muffler, what I ment was a Y pipe into and out of a single in and out muffler, sorry I should've had that more clear in my first post.
And I also had another Idea, could I take the stock Y pipe and cut it right were they merge so it will be like a "V" then weld on a "^" to make it a custom cheap xpipe? and I just found out the truck already has a cherry bomb, but I still want a duel exhaust so maybe I can use that as one of my mufflers

????.... what stock Y pipe???
The two exaust pipes should merge into one pipe, but this looks nothing like a Y pipe.
keep the pipe straight untill you get to the rear axle then use a Y and split off.
Or your cheapest route my be to run super truck (lightning) style exhaust.

Stop trying to help, you're not helping.

The whole "making your own X-pipe from the OEM Y-pipe" is overly complicated and will be more expensive if you are paying someone else to do the work.

If you want true duals, here's the list:
- Magnaflow X-pipe $65.00
- Pair of mufflers you want
- Pair of tips $100

If you want a SIDO
- 1 SIDO muffler
- Pair of tips

thanks alot. I already have a cherry bomb so I just need one more muffler, a xpipe, and some pipeing then Ill build it. And I have access to pipe bender, welder and a lift so hopefully this will be quick and easy, and I'm probably going to be running a dump pipe or a lightning style exit

Go with the Lightning exit. Dumps are for trash.

Aluminized steel, but they will rust really quick if you live up north. They probably would rust out within a couple of years. I've got aluminized steel pipes here in GA and they have some surface rust. I've been meaning to paint them, but I think it's too late.

If you have a pipe bender and feel confident with your welding, then making your own x pipe will save you alittle cash. I've made a couple for guys at the college and it's not that hard. Just alittle time and skill needed. this guy made his own,

Just two 45 degree bends.
