Looking to change my Exhaust....Thoughts?

I've been weighing the idea of changing my exhaust setup for a couple months. I've looked around here the last couple of weeks and read some good info and tried to gain some knowledge but can't decide the route i want to take.

First off a little info on my current setup.

06 5.4L S'Crew with Stock Cats, SIDO configuration with NO Mufflers and 3in Dia 18in Length Magna Flow SS Tips. I am not 100% positive but it looks as if the Redneck shop that originally did this made a custom "Y" piece that goes to 3" from the stock stock 2.5" that is located just before the rear axle. I know this isn't much of performance setup, but at the time I was a poor college kid and hated the quiet truck. I've had this setup since I bought the truck new about 5 years ago.

Now as of late I just feel it's almost too loud. Esp on start up on a cold morning! It's very loud. Normally driving doesn't really bother me but when I wake up to go hunting or something I feel like I wake the entire neighborhood when I fire it up at 4am! lol

I'm essentially looking something that will quiet it down but still give me a good performance. (I remember feeling huge difference in power when that stock muffler was gone) I still would like be able to hear it but it doesn't need to be as obnoxious. I'm not big on chambered mufflers either.

Is there something out there that I could apply without having to purchase new tips? ie....the 3in to 2.5 that I described earlier? I've had a full basssani system on my Mustang and absolutely loved it but have never heard them on trucks before....

Open to ideas, thanks for reading, sorry for the lost post but I wanted to give the best description possible....

Wouldn't the high flow cats make it louder? I'm not really looking to break the bank bit would pay for a good quality system that met my needs....

well $500 certainly isn't bad for the system you describe, I'd be fine with that....if I left the stock cats do you think that would tone a down a bit? I realize it's an odd request. I've loved the loud sound for a long time but lately it just becomes kind of burden at times....

OP, listen. This is what you should do in my opinion. You want to tone it down some, but keep the performance and a great sound as well. While doing this, you don't want to brake the bank?

Get online and order a 2.5" Dynomax bullet and a universal Y pipe. The bullet comes in 2 lengths. I recommend the shorter one with stock cats. This will tone it down, but will sound great doing it. As for the Y pipe, I hate "custom" fabricated Y and X pipes from exhaust shops. I suggest replacing it with a universal Y pipe and be done with it.

This be relatively cheap to have put together at a shop too.

With stock cats it would sound good. The bullet is a good way to go to.
