Do my eyes deceive me or do I still see the stock exhaust behind that rear wheel. Cosmetic stick on stacks, I guess. Does go well with the rest of the truck though. Very nice.

I can handle the diesels, just not the gassers.

 

I noticed that many here said that. I wonder though ..... WHY the difference?
Just in general?

Big trucks have them and it's true that big trucks have diesels these days, but that
wasn't always the case. I can recall big trucks pulling semi trailers with gas motors
and stacks.

I also recall the movie "Ode to Billy Joe" set in 1950s Mississippi.

Neat little early '30s Ford PU with flathead V-8 and stacks.

Not something I desire to do, but wheather it's a diesel or gas, truck looks same
except the gas ones don't stink so much. Most trucks look like crap with stacks
in my opinion, but you take an older step side from years ago, it often works pretty well.

 

I guess my reasoning goes back to my up bringing. I was pretty much raised around, on, in, outside of a semi. Back then the big thing was the amount of black smoke you could produce. I know idiotic now looking back. I guess I still equate the diesel engine in pick ups to that, again just dumb but thats how I see it. However I feel 100% confident I would never put such a thing on my diesel pick up if I owned one.

Oh hey .... it was more of a retorical question.

No, not idiotic .... it's an association formed early in life and I understood it because I guess I did same ...
... but when I look at these PUs around here with stacks in a styleside, like a Dodge Cummins (or Ford or what have you)
with two 8" bent stacks, big chrome visor, oodles marker lights, huge tires and big lift ... I .

Yeah .... they used to turn the fuel way up on them old diesel rigs to make power and at night it wasn't unusual
to see a foot or more flame from a truck's stack ...
... and that's when it was just starting to run right according to my uncles.

'Course .... 3-4 mpg tops and often less was the result.

Everybody has one.

If all were the same, it'ld be dull.

And a stack on a diesel that really works for a living hauling loads up the highway is a good thing, get's the
gasses away from other drivers and makes for both a healthier and safer highway experience. Big trucks
blowing black sooty and stinky stinky exhaust out the side or from under neath 2-3 feet off the grond
would be right at other's windows. One of the worse things in the city used to be the old diesel busses
when they were ahead of you in slow traffic ..... a real choking experience.

I can see the good in a tall stack on a 1 ton PU pulling a 5th wheel stock trailer.

But two 8" pipes on a HD ton PU diesel with lift and big tires you know never pulls a trailer?
There's a guy not far from me with a Chevrolet sitting on such a lift and huge tires and these two 8 or 10"
stacks angled out from the top. His opinion, it looks good, mine is it looks sillly. You follow it and it looks
like the exhaust just falls out the pipe.

 

I've only seen a couple of diesel trucks with stacks that have looked tasteful. One is a completely backed out Ram 2500 with a pair of black stacks. I still think a conventional exit would look better, but stacks do catch your attention when you see it.
