4.6L Longtubes

Who has LT's on a 97-03 4x4 4.6? I'm replacing the worn out knocking beast and was wondering who had them and what worked. I'm doing away with the EGR so not worried about that just don't wanna beat up the primaries to make them fit.

https://www.f150online.com/forums/ex...2-morro-5.html

Theres my thread i did my install on page 5.

i orderd 97-03 4.6/5.4 Pacesetter longtubes Quick trips and i didnt have any probs other than the frist bolt on the driver side primary and had to remove the heat sheild to get the passenger side in. Also the EGR i had to get a 5/8 cap and cap off the headers then get something to block off the EGR tube it self because the 5.4 EGR is bigger than the 4.6

i did NOT remove the starter or any A/C things.

my buddy put them on his 5.4 Expy in under 3 hours that includes taking off manifold and putting longtubes on.

These are for the 4.6L so i think the EGR should work.

These are ceramic coated so they wont rust.

And another set.

i went with the steel ones they were 280 bucks when i bought them and i painted them with VHT paint.

i used the gaskets and bolts from the kit. no leaks and no ticking or anything either.

Good luck deff set aside a weekend or so to do this. unless you have a shop and lift and what not.

they add good power as well.

hope that helped.

They sell the header plugs here - http://rjminjectiontech.com/?p=9 for the Pace setters. I haven't tried these myself. Pace setter uses a 3/4 or 19mm (same thing) EGR bung. I run an EGR system (I want it), - the Pace setters/EGR placement lines up perfectly, NO hassle. That's for the 5.4L install only w/factory adapter @ the tube bung connect. For the 4.6L , as you most likely know, you have to customize a EGR pipe in order for it to work with this set up, - A PITA.

I've ran with the EGR delete for a time while waiting on parts. A regular pipe thread 3/4" plug will work for the EGR bung for sealing off, BUT! you have to incorporate/fabricate a flat washer to fit the plug or the header will leak at the bung when it heats up. It can even tic when this happens and can be hard to pinpoint the leak. I couldn't find the leak until I charged the system with 15 lbs of air thru the tailpipe using soapy water from a squirt bottle applied to seams and connections.

Anyway, the flat washer addition fixed the leak. That should save you some time. Other option would be to weld the plug down.

Just a heads up, shifty is 2wd.
He's the only one that had an easy time with these headers. I believe his 2wd quik trip headers are part #70-2226. Maybe those would work better for ya

Yes i am 2wd i forgot to mention that. but i did order the 4wd 5.4L headers i think the only diff. is were the o2 bung is pointed at so the o2 doesnt hit the driveshaft.

my buddy's 5.4 expy was 4x4 and he had no probs.....then again he had a 3" body lift

Here are some pics- give you an idea of the problems you might run in to..

This is the drivers side header, I couldn't put it into 4wd bc it liked a quarter inch of clearing the front driveshaft yoke.

The drivers side again, where the front drive shaft blocked the egr bung, had to plug it and make a new one.

The fix. cut the collector down and and put the egr bung in the front of the highflow.
Had to trim the passanger side motor mount and we did have to jack the motor up to get them on.
Thought i had a picture, but on the other side of those high flows, there is turn downs. putting exhaust on is about out of the question.
I also didn't remove starter or AC. Had other issues, like broke off oil dipstick and broke egr tube. Broke one stud off, but got it out had just enough sticking out still.

Yea, that sucks. With the 5four, you have about an 1.25" to play with -

I think I measure this for you 98, -in the past ?
