97-03 rear cat delete.. guys with experience please look

Well guys im doing this to my truck because the passenger side rear one is going im pretty sure its rattling like crazy but. Im going to be doing it myself my dad can weld it for my but im curious how you did it. I want to cut the cats off as close as the cat I can getting leaving the most piping left as possible in the back so I can use exhaust clamps and not weld it. Im just going to cut it out, unbolt the front cats on each side from the header, welf the new pipe to the cat, bolt it back up and slip the exhaust over the excisting exhaust right before the rear 02 sensors and clamp it. Problem is I got bout 1/2" on the pass side and 3/4" on the driver side of pipe before the o2, is that enough to seal it with a clamp? I dont want to have to drop the entire exhaust to do it. any input would be awesome

My advise would be to weld all of it. No clamps!

i did the same thing and used clamps at first. just took the power saw to em and clamped them but i used the $15 band clamps thinking it would work. but not there is not enough room from where you have to cut to the o2 sensor to get a good seal. if your dad can weld then just hack em off leaving as much of the pipe on there is possible and have him weld new pipe in. thats what i ended up doing but it took $80 later to figure it out!
