Cool Air Intake and other stuff

Hi guys, I was just wondering where a good place to get a cold air intake for a 1997 Ford F-150, and also what kind of performance gains will I get from one? Also, just in general, where is a good place to get aftermarket parts for the same truck? Thanks for your help!!

Do a search for "Gotts Mod" on here, and if you still want to add one anyway, S&B makes a solid product with good looks under the hood. As far as gains go, an intake won't impress on its own. You will need to look at exhaust, intake mod and tuner combination to get started.

Best bang for your buck as most everyone will tell you is a tuner...have a look at those options first.

Performance Peddler's a good place to start for exhaust...suspension etc...

Thanks, and I am looking at a system of stuff. Cool air intake, SIDO Flowmasters, and I'm looking at perhaps an Evolution CS tuner. What do you think?

For the tuner you might want to check out the following.

www.troyerperformance.com
www.powerhungryperformance.com

Also think about underdrive crank pulley.

Of those three only the tuner will provide any benefit - and not a lot on a stock truck unless you are willing to run premium fuels.

The other two are simply a waste of money - no gains worth spitting at. Yer truck already has a CAI stock. Gotts it and move on. The Fartmasters are a buttplug joke of a muffler.

^ X2 Save yourself some money with the CAI and put a good exhaust system with a custom tune and you will get the most out of your truck without spending too much

Go the custom tunes and Gotts mod route.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Ok MGDFan, since the "Fartmasters" are a "buttplug joke of an exhaust", what kind of exhaust would you recommend? Is there any major difference between flowmaster and magnaflow?

I'm not MGDfan,
But I'll try my best to explain.
Flowmaster is a chambered muffler.

Magnaflow is a flow through muffler.

Personally if I were to do my exhaust again I'd start by reading these threads in the exhaust section.

JMHO.

That part is completely subjective. I personally think that a Slowmaster on any vehicle flat out ruins it. Bullet's/Magnapack's/Borla's are proper 1st class mufflers in terms of both sound and performance, unlike 2nd (3rd?) rate mufflers that are chambered.

I went from dual flowmasters to dual magnaflows. I could actually tell a performance gain after i switched to the magnaflows. Either go magnaflow or Borla. Ive had both.
