KingRanch-----As you should know I take my gas mileage pretty seriously if not **** retentive about it. I document every fill up, do the math of miles divided by gallons put in to yield my MPGs. I have YET to get 15MPGs!!! My best tank was 14.9 and was ALL interstate...and that was after new MC plugs, clean TB, Clean MAF, & new fuel filter I believe...To my point----I'd gladly try that tornado if you want to send it my way so we could have some more data. I also have a 2003..but I don't have a EVO Programmer. I don't know if that has something to do with your mileage gains or not. Of course, I'll send it back once I had some data from it. Dude, I could care less what others thought if I was getting better results! If putting Texas Pete Hot sauce in my tank gave me 2 MPGs better gas mileage....I'm hitting the Sam's club to buy some Texas Pete in bulk! LOL. Congrats on your better mileage-------------DirtySCREW

If you don't understand this place 4 of your fingers in front of your mouth. Now blow and with your other hand feel how much air gets by. Now slightly turn your hand and repeat. Now do it with your hand turned side ways so that your blowing on your index finger. Getting the picture now? Does anyone see how the "spinning" air would be stopped and forced to flow around? Now if thing were located after the throttle plate it may stand a chance of having some affect. Now problem #2 with this retarded thread. Fuel mileage. The only way to properly measure fuel usage would be in a controlled enviorment where temp and bp are the same and by measuring the fuel flowed through the injectors. MPG measured on the hwy are not accurate. A head or tail wind of 5mph or more could have a substantial affect. Not to mention temp, how hard you're on the gas and off, weight in the truck, tire pressure (which temps can play with) traffic, etc.
I understand what you are saying. Im not saying my calculation are 1000 percent correct just rough estimates. As ive pointed out i have had this "tornado" on for over 3,000 miles and have got better gas mileage with it on. 95 percent of my driving is highway driving cruising around the speed limit. I have made it loud and clear this is all highway driving. Im sure if i filled the truck up in a big city and did alot of stop and go driving and merging onto the highway etc my mileage would drop like no other. I KNOW IT WOULD. How many people on here can actually say they drive all highway all the time?NOT many. So believe what you want. Its not like i pushing everyone on here to go out and purchase this device and guaratee it will raise the MPG's by 2 or 3 MPG.

Totally agree with ya about what other's think, Everyone's opinion is totally different when it comes to this stuff. As far as your mileage goes sound like you have done any and everything as far as parts to get better mileage. To me your MPG's are pretty avg for being what your truck is. Your's is a 4x4 with 3.73 gears and im sure bigger tires on it then mine. I did get about a 1/2 mpg to 1 gallon better when i got my evo. My truck is a 4X2 with the 3.55 rear end stock size tires. It has 116,000 miles and nothing has been changed except for my autolite plugs. Still original o2's cop's etc. Another thing is there is one station here that has pure gas and thats the only station i use (shell). Give me a few weeks or maybe even a month and i will send you the tornado so you can see what it does on your truck. Maybe split the shipping or something. I have a lot of traveling to do since the holidays are coming up so would like to keep it on my truck for the better fuel mileage. After the holidays send me a pm to remind me and we will get it done.

Hey man, its working for you.
To me you have provided more than enough pics and data to justifiy that you are gaining MPG using it.

Pic related.

Sounds Good King Ranch......I'll give you a shout in january/february and we'll just SEE what it does on my 4x4 truck. Again, I have stock SIZE tires (265/70R17)...but they just happen to be BFG All Terrain KOs. ----DirtySCREW

ITS BACK

I have put over 9200 miles on this device...

Havent had any mileage worse than 18.1 mpg and just yesterday got 21.3 mpgs on a extended drive. My edge is even showing AVG MPG's at 19.7 mpg's and havent reset it since i got the edge...

I have two theories...1 which I think was discussed in this thread already which is that the air restriction causes less of a need for fuel due to that shreaded beer can being stuck in the intake or (2) the OP has a crap load of these in his ebay store and needs to move them.

Regardless to each his own and without real data theres just no proof. Get to a dyno or do some data logging. With the shreaded beer can in place and removed what is your volumetric efficiency? This would prove or disprove air intake blockage. And fuel flown through the injectors both with and without. This would tell the story. Lets see some real data!!!!

I don't doubt this guy at all. I am sure he is just running slightly leaner and his ecm has compensated. I know that the tornado reduces dyno numbers, that has been proven beyond a doubt. But that does not tell the whole story, just because it runs lower numbers on the dyno doesn't mean it will get worse mileage. For example, I have a 76 cobra 2 that I have built up. I did a 100 mile trip and only took 3.5 gallons. Now that comes to 30+ mpgs which is way off for this car. Well long story short the fuel filter was very plugged and once I replaced it my mileage went doooowwwwnnn again.. just my .02 running lean you use less fuel, but make less power..

I do, I wanna see a real time comparison with a scan gauge or something. Honestly for a 1-2 mpg better for $60 why wouldn't the factory put them in. I seriously can't believe anyone thinks these work. My guess is the driver drove a lot more cautiously with the tornado installed.

I dont have proof on this last tank, but if you look back a few pages i took pics of odometer gas guage and how many gallons it took to fill up.

Once again you have to remember that i live in texas no hill's to speak of straight highway for miles. Im thinking i had a good tail wind for this trip coming back.. I was driving about 68-70. I have never been able to get city mpg cause i dont live or drive in town. so 98 percent of my driving is all highway. The worst i have EVER got is 15 mpg and that was towing a loaded 16 foot trailer.

If it works for you, who cares what anyone thinks.

I tried a Tornado on a carburetor motor and it did nothing.

I believe if I were to try it on a FI engine I would place it after the TB throttle blade.

I did experiments with *swirl inducing* devices in race motors in the late 70's. None made more power until I started *porting* the heads with a swirl pattern on the throat area under the intake valve. Did not test for fuel economy.

I placed the *air spinners* in the intake ports, as my last ditch effort.

That was MANY hours of work for zero gain. However the knowledge gained was priceless.
