P1405
P1405
Drove about 50 miles home from Detroit today on the freeway. Didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. Got back in the truck, drove a mile, gave a CEL.
The first code is P1405-"Solenoid control circuit low input". The description was "The ecm performed an EGR test and detected no RPM change during the test period". Am I to assume the only possible cause of this is a bad EGR valve? The guy at Autozone was quick to sell me one, but a quick search of "EGR" on this forum left me a little unsure as to whether another problem could exist.
It also gave a second code: P0301 Cylinder misfire Cyl #1. Curiously enough, the coil on this plug got wet with the rain last week and caused a serious misfire. It ran AWFUL until I replaced the coil, then it was good as new. Is it possible that this did damage to the plug as well? (The plugs have 120k on them, so they're due for a change anyhow. That will happen in the coming week or two.)

Cylinder one misfire how convenient is that location
. If it got wet you might still have some moisture down where the plug is preventing decent spark. Take a blow gun or a towel or something and try to clean or dry it out as much as possible. "P1405 DPFE Upstream Hose Off Or Plugged". There are two hoses coming off of the EGR tube into the DPFE sensor and you need to make sure that they are secured tightly and not leaking. If this does not help the situation then you MIGHT have a bad EGR vacuum soleniod. Make sure all EGR connections are tight but most likely it is one of those two hoses is leaking. GL

Ha, yeah. Doesn't get much easier than that. though all 8 plugs will be changed this upcoming week anyhow.
I only posted this because even though the OBD handheld was very specific in saying what was wrong, the Autozone rep got the replacement EGR for me before he even told me what the code was. I didn't install it, rather, I did change the 2 small rubber tubes leading to the DPFE. They were both split in a few spots, just dried out and rotted through. Though they were also both full of what looked like burnt crap, too. Either way, I had them clear the code. We'll see how long it takes for either one to come back...
