I had kooks long tube headers, offroad x-pipe(no cats) and borla mufflers with dumps(right after muffler) and it was to me quiet. This car had over 500rwhp through an auto.
And to compare had bbk long tubes, offroad x-pipe with catback magnaflow(no cats though) and wooohoo that sucker absolutely ripped and sounded like the fires of hell when the pedal was over half. This car was stock except for exhaust. Both mustang gt's with 4.6's.
So the muffler(if you go no cats) will control all of your sound. Of course add cats and she'll restrict a little more.

 

I think mine with just the cat and enough pipe to get it behind the cab is okay, it is by no means loud enough but before it was like driving a jet. Man oh man did it sound good wound up to 4500 and grabbing another gear.
Most people don't like it, but I love the popping sound when I shift.

 

Really it all comes down to what your ears like. I loved my kb pop when letting off.
Now you have to give a sound clip .

I was going to take a video with the exhaust off and never got the chance.
I will get a video of it and possibly a drive by asap.
Could take awhile though, I'm working on the farm till dark all this week so maybe Saturday.
