Well it seems I've been schooled in the 4.9 field.

well my truck is a 90 and i would say that means it is an early 90's..
it is not a true dual, there is a y pipe just off the headers.

I still say single 2.5" is your best bet here. Y pipe and run dual tips over the rear end.

Cracking valves is a myth when running open headers(those people aren't tuned properly for the open headers). It should not ever get that hot and your heads would warp aka blown head gasket first but I will say the computer takes awhile to help you with idle and fuel control.
It will hurt low-end power but she'll pull up high like never before. That's why cars usually run them at the track and such(lighter and stay higher in rpms). People are too quick to believe in all the hype sometimes. If you don't beat the crap out of it, make sure computer compensated(check plugs) and don't mind the low-end loss you will be fine.
Oh and before you flame away do some research. You can burn valves(that's the true reason they crack) easier if it's too lean(too much air) but if you take care of it(check plugs or get tuned) you'll be fine.

Wow thanks jeff, I only ran open headers for a couple of days and I did notice it smelled rich and at idle it would 'hunt' between about 800 and 1000 rpm's
Kind of sounded like a v8 with a big cam but a lot slower.

Computer was just trying to figure out what was going on. I'd pull a plug and just make sure it didn't foul them up a bit. Hard to say with the dang ethanol fuel nowadays they eat plugs quicker. If not white(burned to hot) they can be cleaned.
If you ever need to do that again I'd recommend taking the battery cables off for 15 minutes and let the computer start fresh and learn with it. I can't remember for sure but if memory serves me correctly I believe the computer can compensate 15% for mods and changes from stock. It won't be optimum(aftermarket tune would) but will work.

There is no way to tune the computer in my truck without a new computer being build from scratch. I'm not sure that resetting the computer with a battery pull would even do much. I'm sure if I really wanted to rattle windows as a I drove by I could take the exhaust off again and do a little timing bump and open the gap on the plugs and so on. It's just too damned loud though.

Ya a 90 is a little older and doesn't do as much. You'd probably have to advance the timing or pull depending on what is needed and do most of it by hand.
What's wrong with rattling windows .

I am planning on doing a timing bump soon to see if she runs any better.
Rattling windows was fun but coming home at midnight and going through town I had to coast into town in neutral and during the day I found it very very very hard to stay off that skinny pedal. Essentially ruining my coveted 21 mpg.
