Flowmaster have been know to be droner's. And when people say they have duals, do they truelly have duals, that is 2 pipes from engine to tail. And did you install and H or X pipe. I have long tubes with true duals and x pipe no drone. I also have no cats, so loud, real loud. Magnaflow mufflers at 22 inch body, 5x11.

OBTW I have a used in good shape Magnaflow SI/DO 2.5 inch that I have laying around. I think its an 18 inch 5x9 body.

Just my $.02...
I'm already committed to the changeout, but if the changeout still has a level of drone I don't want then I'll add a bullet inline as you pojnted out. Good idea thanks.

I replaced a SI/SO stock muffler with a SI/SO 5X8X24 maggie and left the rest of the system stock.

When I turn the key over I get a soft deep rumble like it has a pair. As I slowly take off it softly rumbles and stays that way as long as I stay below 1500 rpm climbing up to cruising. If I'm just a little heavier in the gas when accelerating and letting it climb into 1800 rpm the drone appears. To me, from the cabin the drone sounds like what a very large 6 cylinder on modified exhaust would sound like and it starts to intrude into the music or conversation in the cabin.

If I tromp on it to pass it is pure pleasure that makes the nipples stiff.

Blue07STX has a good idea for overcoming the drone and if the 5X11X22 still has the drone I will be looking for a quality 12" bullet to act a lead for the Maggie.

As for sound between these two? The second will be quieter - but both will still sound pleasng. A personal preference, is all.

Two very good points made by MGDfan.

1. Whether the sound is pleasing or displeasing is relative to one's own personal preference. Exhaust quality is in the ears of the beholder.

2. I had a 5x8x24 and found the drone too loud for my tastes as it intruded into the cabin. I switched over to a 5x11x22 today and the drone was reduced by about 80%. I am very happy with the 22". Sounds great less annoying.

Someday I'd still like to catch a ride in an F150 5.4 with a Maggie SISO 5x8x24 with a lead in bullet to see what the difference could have been.

Yep still have it. Its a 18x5x8 body with an overall length of 24 inches. Also has hangars installed from Magnaflow. Its in good shape with some surface rust on top. I'm located outside Waldorf MD. Let me know.

I'm thinking about this same Muffler with si/so 5x11x22 ,,Does it sound a little louder/better than the big stock muffler? Would it hurt my low in turque because I tow a 7700lb Camper some. Hoping it will help. thanks

Can't advise on towing as I have yet to pull anything significant. Recently went over 1000 miles and have only pulled a lightly loaded 5X8 trailer. The load was so light that I wandered if I should even have engaged tow, but that is a subject question for another forum dept. My opinion is that changing just the muffler and leaving the rest of the exhaust system stock you are not significantly changing back pressure on the system to affect your torque.

Definite difference in exhaust note from stock and glad I did it. Inherent risk in changing the muffler is wanting to be a little heavier on the pedal on acceleration to listen to it's rich throaty response. As stated previously there is still some minor drone with the SI/SO 5X11X22 2.5". I just inadvertently further quieted the minor cabin drone when I installed a Leer 100XQ truck cap. So now life is wonderful.

Is it the MagnaFlow 12586, found one for $90 on Amazon with free shipping, gonna pull the trigger if someone can confirm that it will fit (offsets and piping are right for stock pipes). Just looking to replace my muffler only, keep the stock pipes, I already have a tip on.
