SI/DO or True Dual?

I am trying to decide whether to just make a muffler swap or change my system completely and do a true dual x-pipe. What will be the difference between the two in sound and will there be any significant performance change (i think i may loose some low end w/ the xpipe)?

BTW..what i have now is a SI/DO, 2.5 inch pipe, Flowmaster 40, w/ 94106highflow cats, and 3 1/2x18 ss tips, 45'd out the back

SIDO's are boring IMO. Not aggressive enough and don't hold their tone all the way through the RPM range.

You won't really feel any performance changes if you keep your manifolds and you engine is N/A. The true duals do offer more power, but it compliments other more serious mods for producing power. If you plan on doing some serious mods in the future, then true duals is the best bet.

Also, the X-pipe is the best performing crossover on an asymmetric exhaust system. It allows both sides to be balanced more than an H-pipe and promotes scavenging much better than an H or no cross over. X-pipes make more power down low and up top.

What ^ said. The thing to chose from is the sound and if you really want to spend the cash. Duals sound better in most cases. X pipe is essential to performance and sound with duals.

^ It will probably be just a hair louder with duals.

It will be a good bit louder depending on the mufflers and cats. Going from a SIDO 40 series to just a pair of Magnapacks with stock cats, it was a good bit louder, had a lot more tone, and more aggressive.

Maybe I should have specified... I am saying that if your considering si/do or true duals, with the same cat/muffler(s) setup, then the true dual set up will be a hair louder than the equivalent si/do.

Like Punisher said, it is hard to say if duals will be louder than what your current set up is until we hear what your plans are for the next system. Are you wanting it louder? Deeper? More mellow? More rumble? What is it that your looking for exactly?

I dont necessarily want it louder, just a different tone then what I have now (the 94106's definitly made it loud enough for me). I would like it to be deeper as well and judging by alot of the sound clips, borla may be the muffler that i want.

Magnaflow makes a DI/DO unit with an integrated X-pipe. I like the way it sounds on my 07.
