1989 302 exhaust

1989 F150 4x4 302 w/120k miles

Originally, I posted this in the "Pre 1997 model" area and got nothing useful ...so I'll try it here.

The stock original exhaust pipe has rusted off just behind the factory muff, dumping exhaust on the rear axle, so I am now forced to put new exhaust on and need advice.

I am not up to speed on the older motors any more. The last time I owned an older V8 there was no internet and we all just went to the muffler shop and had glasspacks and dual pipes bent and welded on. I would like to tap the resources of the collective opinion available nowadays.

I want the usual...more power/torque like everybody else. Nice low rumble but not loud enough to wake up people if they are sleeping when I leave the house. Please keep in mind that this is an old truck and I am not prepared to sink alot of cash into an exhaust for a truck that is not worth alot of cash.

I guess what I am asking for is a good idea of what to tell my local independent muffler shop guy what I want him to do when I bring my truck in to his shop.

I really like the sound of the early 90's Mustang GT's with the 302. Would the same setup sound the same on my truck?

Thanks for any opinions!

Yeah. This truck is showroom stock. Near showroom condition too. Nicest 20 year old truck I have seen without work being done.

I would think 2.25". If you want snappy get a glasspack . 3.5" or 4" tip will be good.
