Exhaust Advice......

I have a 2001 4x4 Supercrew with the stock exhaust still. What are my options for a aftermarket set-up? I don't want to do a complete swap out. How many cats are on these trucks? Can I just do some hi flow cats & a single in dual out muffler?

4 cats. Take all 4 out and put 2 Magnaflow Highflows back in. SI/DO would do fine too - check into Magnaflow's. Either 14" or 18". 2.5" tailpipes.

Yes it would! Magnapacks sound beast, but from what I've heard drone alot. But that 14" would sound great. Loud when you want it to be, quieter when cruising...

I don't want bullet type mufflers. I'm looking for a nice clean rumble. I've had bullets on my mustang before & they sounded good but too loud for my taste. I know you can't compare them to the sound of on a truck but I can imagine them louder.

You should try a SI/DO 14" magnaflow muffler. Then if it is too quiet, you can swap cats out for high flows. I think the 14" SI/DO sounds great.

^^ That's good advice. High Flows cost moolah, haha. Start with the muffler then move up if needed. Keep in mind it will take approx. 8,000 miles for the muffler to break in.

$67 each? Plus $100 installed? Would you rather pay $300 each for OEM cats if you ever had to? Think of it that way, good advice for persuasion.

Darren,
I just did the "make us an offer" deal at Performance Peddler. They came back with a price of $50 for the 94106 high flow cat. $100 for the pair so its even more affordable than the $67. My next question is that since the 94106 is shorter than the stock cat, does it matter which end of the cat is added to? Adding to the front will move the cat further back and visa versa. Does it matter about moving it closer to the rear O2 sensor?

I was trying to say that the 14" might be loud enough for him. Then, if it isn't he can always fork out $200 for high flows.

14" + 94106's is what I have. A very very good sounding combination. Pretty darn deep and throaty. Turns some heads on acceleration esp if you get on it a bit and nice low unmistakable rumble at cruise. IMO, this is one of the safest/louder set-ups for most people because of the ability to control its loudness.

Look up 08Fx4's vids on youtube. Sounds just like that, although he upgraded his mid pipe to full 3". Just search for f150 14" maggie 94106 and you should get it.

If I was you I would start at my very front two cats (closest to the motor) the run true dual 2.5 inch pipe from there all the way out the back with 3.5 inch tips angled out the back (45 degree) that's what I have on my 05 4.6 and it is loud when you get down in it but just a nice very deep rumble when just riding. Also when I put my boot down in it, it puts out a very nice loud pop. Its a definite head turner and it sounds great. Who thinks I should make a video?
