Exclamation Gotts Intake Question(Quick Replies Please)

Hey before I get flamed for making a Gotts Intake thread, I just wanted to say that I have searched and read for about 2 hours all about the Gotts method.

Anyways I read up and decided to do it today. I got my intake apart easily and the snorkel out pretty painfully.

The hardest part for me is the PVC pipe!!!! How on earth do I make it fit in that oblong hole into the fender? I was filing/shaving for a good 2 hours and just could not get that damn thing to fit!!

For you people that have done this can you please tell me how to get the pvc in.

Also just to double check, once I get it all working. The pvc pipe goes into the fender and one end hooks into the coupling. The coupling is then connected to the intake box right? And from there its just normal setup correct?

Also where is and how do I remove the silencer.

Thank you so much in advance!!

5.4 or 4.6?

I used a dremel to get the material off to get it to fit. Sander was taking way way too long. Just test fit every so often.

"silencer": If you have a 5.4, I put a flat-head screwdriver into the rubber part and worked it around and it came apart fairly easily.

You have the cone filter correct?
I have a 4.6L that uses the cone filter and this is what I did. I used a saw to just cut part of the pipe. This post I made has pictures because it'll take forever for me to explain.

Ok, so I didn't explain it as well as I thought in that post. I used a saw to cut square into the pipe (cutting along the diameter like you would if you were slicing sausage) until the saw teeth were almost visible on the inside of the pipe. Then I turned it so that it sat flat and cut from the edge down to the last cut. This made a little rectangle come off. I then took slivers off (lengthwise) the square edges to make a snug fit.

Here is a picture of what i did, I wasn't about to sand, so I bought a rubber downspout connector and slipped it into the the fenderwell.

I went with the rubber downspout connector as well. I feel better spending the extra $3 on the part than trying to drill out the side of my truck or any sort of cutting. Works perfect for me. I just did the mod myself a couple days ago. Took longer to paint the pvc pipe black than to take off the intake and install it.

The BEST solution out there is to go to Pep Boys and go into the ricer intake section. There, you fill find a product that looks like dryer duct. I recommend shelling out the 20 dollars for this product over similar tubing from Home Depot because it is made to work like the straws with those flexible kinks at the top. They will hold the position you bend them in. Also, The kits come with 2 rubber couplers that fit perfectly into the fender hole and keeps it there. Then simply clamp the other end into the stock intake. No sanding, drilling, grinding, ugly-at-home-look. The finished product is perfectly stock looking and is better able to absorb the bumps and flexs of the engine without ripping out of the fender hole.

Did you use some pvc pipe, clamp and downspout for this setup?
Seems much easier then sanding and filing to get a perfect fit
How does it handle the engine torque?
How snug is the fitment? Dont want it to fall out

The dremel was used to shave away PVC, not sheet metal.

I'm going to have to do this downspout method. My pipe rattles something fierce. It sounds like a powerstroke around idle.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yes I have the 5.4 and have the cone filter.

I'm going to attempt to sand and grind it down to fit today, if not I will be buying a rubber connector or tubing mentioned in this thread.

Everything was pain free until I got to the sanding part. Making it fit in that oblong hole is harder than it looks.

Yeah, thats why I used a saw and pocket knife and just took a little off at a time.

It will also be a royal pain in the *** to get everything back in if you dont leave wiggle room between the pvc and the filter housing.

Yeah, I went to Lowes and got a 3 foot section of 3" pvc and a black rubber coupler with the two hose clamps on it. That was all I needed becuase with the 4.6L the filter is so close to the fender all you need is something sticking out to tighten the clamp on. I'll go take some pictures...

I have a 5.4 so ill be following similar modifications i just want to try the new coupler method. It looks great and a lot less hassle then shaving pipe down
