I have an 04 5.4 3v 4x4 with aK&N intake, 3" magnaflow exhaust, and a gryphon with custom tunes and was wanting some more power for towing. I was considering re-gearing until I had seen how much $$$ it was to put in 4.10s or 4.56s and thought I would look else where for now. I had been reading a little about headers and for the hassle of swapping out the stock manifolds it would be best just to go ahead and get the long tubes.
My question was if I went with the obx setup for example, how much hp/tq gains do you guys think that I would realisticly see with my mods? Also any mpgs? I dont really plan on doing anything else to my truck as for mods if that makes a difference.

Do you think that if I went to 4.56s it would feel like I put a set of headers on in the seat of the pants? If I did one or the other which would I feel more, if they would feel about the same then it would be a no brainer for the headers.

I have 4.10's on my truck, and I'm wanting headers. The added torque will make a big difference in how my truck shifts, and cut out some of the lugging. Mileage-does suck, always has. Keep the engine at lower revs...improve mileage.
i don't know how gears are on these trucks, but on my wrangler went form 3.07 to 4.56. Now I don't even use first gear except offroad. That thing will buzz all the way up to 80mph in no time. Offroad that thing can idle up just about anything, 4lo 1st gear and just let it crawl. I love the gears in it, it runs 3000rpm at 70mph. gas milage sucks on it but always has. I get 12 with 33" tires.
thats a huge jump in gear change. These trucks have either 3:55s or 3:73s. Jumping to 410s like i did well definitely increase the pull out of the hole, and with 4.56s youll get pulled back in your seat. Your MPGs will definitely suffer because your at such high RPMs all the time. at 65 mph on the freeway my truck is at 2300 rpms which equals 13 mpgs

I was pretty sure that the obxs were under 600 and my local ford garage told me gears were going to be around 2k!!
