My FX4 is getting pampered

Finally got around to painting my trim this week. Holy moly what a difference! I took off the flares and painted them, after I put them back on I couldn't just let the cowl go... It looked like crap compared to the flares. I almost got real ambitious and was all set to take off the bedrails, a quick check on my supply of Krylon fuzion satin black and I decided against it.

Stopped by Home Depot and picked up the necessary hardware for the Gotts mod this afternoon. Will be complete tomorrow.

94106 maggie cats are on their way as we speak, to be installed hopefully before the 4th of July. I still haven't decided on an exit location. I've been tossing around the idea of keeping the stock exit with a 4" maggie tip, but I saw one on the road the other day, didn't really like it. Maybe before the passenger wheel? Thoughts on what tip to use for this? Or a dump? How would that sound (94106 to 3" midpipe with 18" oval maggie SI/SO)

I know, pictures or it never happened. Pictures tomorrow. I have to show off how good this thing looks again!

Put it out the side before the rear tire with a 4" tip. That will make it look and sound real good, especially with the 94106ers. I had a 22" oval body magnaflow before the rear tire and it was nice and clean sounding

I'm not a fan of dumped exhausts. I had it on my ranger and the drone on the highway was annoying. my $.02.

Dumping also cuts away from the volume outside the truck. All the sound is directed at the ground, so you really only get echo, which is weak.

The dump is out, I'm going to go for the before the wheel exit. 4" rolled or slash cut look better? I think the slash cut for before the wheel... also how much of an angle would you recommend?

S.O.B...... you have an FX4 lux package............. Get the hell out of here, now!

. Im itching to get one, my neighbor down the hill just bought a brand new truck and is going to sell his 08 red FX4 lux Supercrew 6'5, i'm trying to score dibs on it if the numbers are right, and if I can get a minimum for $13,5 for mine. Its bright red with grey two tone, kinda sucks but it still looks great, no PTM mirror caps oddly though. Wonder what the deal was with that, otherwise its got the works, black leather & everything.

I don't like single 4" tips. I think a dual out tip would look much better.

Its all about what you wanna spend on a tip. I would replicate the lightnings and HDs (angle wise)

I found this truck down in Saint Louis. The interior is amazing, its got everything I need and more. It was a leased vehicle from texas. Underbody was immaculate when I got it. I'm going to spend some time bringing back that cleanliness this summer. Good luck with that S-crew Darren.

Yeah go for it, the Krylon Fuzion makes it hard to screw up. I'm not good with paint, even rattle cans, and I made those flares look damn good. Luckily, my grill is still holding up, I haven't touched it yet. Need to think about some overlays though, that blue oval up front is aging quickly.

Anybody good with photoshop? Maybe a quick dual tip and single tip chop, before the passenger rear.

Exhaust vids to follow install.

sorry about the threadjack, but how'd you remove the flares? I've been wanting to paint my flares, but haven't found any removal tips.

Rear flares:

Start by removing the two bolts holding the "struts" from the frame to the body. After the bolts are out, just cut off all the body rivets on the bottom side of the flare, new rivets at autozone are $6 for 30. When you have all them out, reach or look around the back side of the fender, you will see about 10 snap in clips. Pinch them and pull on the flare, its easier to start from either the front or back and work one way. If you can't pinch the clip, just pull on the flare until the clip pops off of the flair. A pair of needle nose will help to pinch the clip together and pull it out.

Front flares:

Basically the same procedure. Instead of the struts bolted to the flare/body, you have two bolt on clips. They are the two front-most clips on the flare. A 10mm socket will take them right off. Its harder to pinch together the clips for the front, because the wheel well is covered. Same deal as the rear though, if you can't get the clip to pop out of the fender, just pull on the flare until the clip pops off of the flare. Its easier to get the clip off of the fender with a needle nose after the flare is off.

Re-installation:

Just one note here. Make sure you get all the clips out of the fender before you try to put the flare back on. It will save some headaches.

I broke one of the clip holders on the front flare. Still fits snug and there's no gaps.

I hope this helps.
