do it. it dont matter if you just sawzall it and leave it straights or replace it you'll be upgrading. i cut mine out about three months ago and left it as straight pipes. sounds good but still tame as far as noise level goes. bout to have my rear cats deleted here in a couple weeks

I ditched my rusted out Flow 40 a little over a year ago and went with an 18" SI/DO Magnaflow. For all the highway driving I do it's been great, and no more drone!

My '07 F150 Scab Fx4 came to me last August with a fresh SI/DO setup with a Flowmaster series 40 and welded stainless angle tips with rolled edges. It was a great job, tips perfectly mounted.

It was just a bit too loud for us. It rattled windows in town on the way home. This "then trooper" could not have that (wrote a lot of tickets for loud exhaust, still have plenty of buddies who still do .... got over that loud stuff when I was a toad .... got my tickets then too .... and paid them all myself).

Anyways .... I didn't want to remove it and spend lots $$$ .... I liked where the tips exited .... damn near perfect placement .... so I measured that straight piece of pipe which is removable.

And then I bought a long red bullet 2.5" ID glasspack and short piece of 2.5" tubeing, and one clamp. Removed pipe, took glasspack muffler and short tube and clamp and put together, then cut to same length and made same locking cuts as stock pipe. It fit perfectly, reused stock clamps at both ends.

Anyone thinking of doing this, the front of that pipe and the pipe from the motor are 2.5"od, they meet center of that wide double bolt band clamp. At the rear, the pipe is belled and fits over the 2.5" od pipe. A 2.5" ID muffler works hwere, a straight piece of pipe in front works there. Meassure twice.

It killed that drone we found so irritating, really smoothed out the sound. Of course, left the Flowmaster in place. Very pleased with sound and cost .... just about $25. Sounds very much like a Mustang Cobra a buddy owns.

I lightly sanded and painted that bright red bullet "silver".

The Flow 40 had a louder idle but the Maggie is loud when you mash down and no aggravating drone inside the cab at about 40mph. At highway speeds the Maggie sound's good but not loud by any means. Great duet at 70 mph with the Toyo MT's humming and the Maggie singing bass! The 18" Maggie has a deeper rumble then the Flow 40 had and I like the sound a lot better.
