Question True Duals = DRONE

I have true duals on my 05 with a Gibson dual inlet and dual outlet muffler and I also have the dreaded drone at 1800 to 2000 RPM when pulling up even a slight grade . Any suggestions for a muffler replacement that might not drone as much . I had a MAGNAFLOW muffler before the GIBSON muffler and the drone was twice as bad on the MAGNAFLOW. I guess I am getting older and can 't stand the drone . HELP !!!

No way around it without buying a huge muffler. I think my 1800 RPM drone got worse after I installed the X-pipe. I was cruising at 65 up a slight hill and I could feel the drone in the back of my head. It was so bad that it was actually vibrating my brain.

^ that's what I was getting at too. You need a bigger muffler. I think you would be fine with a bigger/longer magnaflow. I am suprised you are getting so much drone with a Gibson though. In my experience they are so quiet compared to most. I had a Gibson exhaust on a 01 4.6L I used to own, and I hated it. It was too quiet.

Huger muffler as said, or add dual Magnaflow 5" round bodies into your intermediate pipes.

Now you know how I feel but maybe a little less. More cab space means more drone space but a much shorter system than yours, but from your videos yours does talk to ya a lot more.

I had duals run on mine. Tied in at the crossover pipe, cut out the "Y" and ran it back into a DI/DO 50 series Flowmaster. I took it back the next day with too much drone. The muffler man added a Magnaflow x-pipe about 8-10 in front of the muffler. It's run right out the back, it was a Magnaflow catback previously and it still is behind the muffler.

Bottom line, the x-pipe cut my perceived drone by, to my ears, about 40%, I'd say. It smoothed out the flow and raise the pitch slightly.

OK , guys . No X pipe in the system . Tail pipes exit out each side - behind the rear wheels - pretty close to the stock location .
Do not remember the Magnaflow size or part number or the Gibson size and part number . Anyone tried the Flowmaster 70 series ? Any suggestions on where to locate the X pipe - close to the engine or closer to the muffler ?
I really am looking to get this thing quiet. Wife is tired of the noise.

It's always better to have the X-pipe as close to where the Y-pipe was. I would stop bothering with Flowmaster's. A pair of Magnaflow 20" ovals would be better.

OK, X pipe close to where the Y pipe was orignally . Then two single mufflers .
I guess that I am still leary of Magnaflow from my first experience with their dual in - dual out muffler . Any suggestions on muffler brand besides Magnaflows. I am really trying to make the truck a lot quieter . Thanks for all the feedback so far .

By drone do you guys mean a constant grumble/rumble from the exhaust? I didn't realize that the sound from your exhaust at 1800-2000+ was a bad thing... Thats when I notice the sound kicking in, at around 1800. If we are in fact talking about the same thing, I personally love the sound, music to my ears, sort of a rumble hum sound. Then again mine isn't nearly as loud as yours i'm sure being a 4.6.

4.6's are generally louder than the 3 valve 5.4's. True duals also drone a lot more than a SIDO.
