Time For New Mufflers
Time For New Mufflers
Hi
currently my exhaust setup is true dual with original 40 series flowmasters, no cats, and an x pipe. My problem is the original 40s sound terrible at 1700 rpm. i think its because of a broken baffle. i have had the issue for about a year now its driving me crazy.
The mufflers i have know aren't welded in place they are just bolted down and they are offset/offset mufflers.... is it possible to just swap the muflers out with a different one as long as it is the around the same demensions height and width?.... I would rather do it myself if possible than pay a shop..... im not worried about the lenght i can cut the pipe or add pipe.
Im thinking about changing out the mufflers when i get some money, for either magnaflows or Borla pro xs. What do you guys Prefer..?
Here is a link to the mufflers i have on my truck now

I was looking into these mufflers
Borla

Magnaflow

Im not sure what difference the length make with the magnaflows. i would really just like to unbolt the old ones an put in new ones. the demnsions of the mufflers are close but im not sure if the inlet and outlet holes on the mufflers buy magnaflow or borla will line up the same as the flowmasters...

The offset factor doesn't mean much, a shop can easily adjust fitment. I went from center/offset Magnaflows to center/center Bullets and it just took 2 3" pre-bent pipes for the exhaust guy to make slip fit and weld together.
Your Original 40s are 13" long though, 19" inlet to outlet, so the 14" Magnaflow & 14" Borla Pro-XS will fit with one inch cut off on their end. Avfrog on here had your exact setup and put in the Pro-XS mufflers, he is much happier with the tone.

Avfrogs original 40s sound like mine. i like the pro xs he put on its a much cleaner sound.
If i where to get new mufflers that where offset/offset like i have now would i have fitment issues besides cutting the pipe an inch back... i can also unbolt the whole back end of the exhaust from the mufflers to put new ones in..
here some pics of the exhast

Oh... Maybe I should finish reading the page first. ha ha I recommend going with center/center and having a shop fab it together. Mine are center/offset, but I could not pass up the deal I got on them.
I will NEVER go back to flowmaster...

I really like the sound of the pro xs on ur truck avfrog it sounds good and alot cleaner than the flowmasters.
How much do you guy think it would cost for a muffler shop to fab up to new mufflers?

Thanks! A shop around where I live would probably charge $40-50 for both mufflers swapped.
