another hi flow thread

I know I want the magnaflow 94106's. I have a magnaflow 18" oval muffler si/so. I was wondering if I could use this muffler with the hi flows and y-pipe to get duals 45ed out the rear. What diameter pipe would I need to use? For some reason the muffler that's on there is a 2.25 in and 3 out.

My original thought was to go true duals, but the other mods I've done to the thing lately are making me change my mind.

Go magnaflow 94106's into a Magnaflow X pipe or Ebay Stainless Steel 2.25 or 2.5" X pipe (half price, same thing, and depending on pipe size you go with), 2 magnpacks or dynomax bullets(again, cheaper, but maggies sound better, some disagree) of your choice and 45'd out the rear with some 3.5 or 4" tips

call it a day

Do the cat swap first all 2.5", the 94106s are 2.5 so no worries. Swap to them, re-mount rear O2s after them. True duals aren't necessary on these trucks, only if you wanna rear the rumble, and need WOT performance. So unless you hot dog around alot and the toned sound of a single exhaust makes you happy, keep it as is.

Thanks for the input guys. I priced the cats on performance peddler , $50 per cat. I'm gonna pull the trigger on those next week, along with a 4x18" tip. Keep the single exit behind the passenger wheel like stock. That will leave room for upgrades down the road, gives me something to spend money on once I get bored.

How does the sound differ from duals? Not necessarily true duals, but with my single exit. My truck has always been quieter with just the muffler swap, so just curious what the hi flows with the magnaflow will sound like out just one tailpipe....?

Great day in the Northeast.

A SI/SO muffler swap is always a bit quiet. Even with a loud muffler. Usually the top end bed of the tailpipe isn't fully mandrel and thats what causes it. Dual tailpipes is usually better for sound projection, but upgrading the OEM Y pipe to a Magnaflow one 2.5 dual in 3" center out, and running a 3" midpipe to a 3" muffler is best for sound gain. Our OEM Y pipes are crap, not free flowing at all, the midpipe is too thin for sound too.

Might I also suggest a 4x12 tip if your only going to have a single tip. 18" looks a bit long and awkward in a single exit imo.

Alright, gotter all figured out now....

replace 4 cats with 2 94106's, 2.5" out of cats to 2.5 in 3 out Y. 3" mid pipe to muffler and 2.5 in or 3 in tail?

I'll get this one day. Thanks for your help and insight Darren.

Yep, keep the tailpipe the same size as the midpipe in a single exhaust. 3" will work fine.
