Exhaust guys...

So, I want more growl out of my 2010 FX4 5.4...I’ve been kicking around a couple of ideas, and finally just went down to a local muffler shop and spoke with a couple of the mechanics, after hearing what I had to say they suggested the following.

Delete the Y pipe
Come off the cats into a DI/DO magnaflow and run it dualed out the back.

They said this should keep good back pressure and give me decent sound. I’ve personally never had a Mangnaflow on anything, and have never done anything more than just cutting a muffler out and replacing it with something else.

What can I expect from this set up?

Is anyone currently running this type of set up on a 09+ 5.4?

Thanx alot guys

Tony

Fail, reason? the guy telling you 'backpressure' is how exhaust works.

The system he explained would be fine, but if you are going to run dual intermediate pipes, run dual mufflers, not a DI/DO. Stick with a 3" intermediate pipe with a Magnaflow Y pipe and Magnaflow 14" oval body SI/DO if you want to buy just one muffler.

I would say si/do. 14" 12198, done deal. True duals will sound nice, but si/dos are more than enough when done right on these trucks.

"Good back pressure"... WTF? I would go to an other shop based solely on that statement.

Agreed I'm running an obx di/do which is very similar to a maggie and it sounds amazing. Go di/do no sense in keeping the Y pipe. They sound like crap imo. True Duals sounds way cleaner and less restriction. Or just go buy two dynomax bullets and run a real true dual system. They cost like $40 bucks shipped from summit, and plus you will LOVE the sound. Last i looked two bullets was cheaper than a di/do maggie but don't quote me on that I haven't switched exhausts in quite awhile. I love the way my truck and especially because I know no one else has the same muffler as me because I can't even find it haha. I've been meaning to get a clip it sounds mean.

I'd sure like to hear that setup. I heard an OBX muffler on a Lightning with full exhaust, amazing sound. Almost better than Borla.
