Are you stating you know it had 4 stock, and previous owner removed the last 2? Because all trucks built Jan 2005+ came stock with two large cats.

Darren, yes. Has the small resonators on down pipes, then the muffler after the "y". Done by previous owner. Just bought this truck last week.

Built and added Black PVC/DWV/ABS intake snorkel replacement tonight. Will test drive on the way to work in the morning. Should be an improvement. $18 beats the hell out of $300+.

Thanks,

David

I am a student. I was supposed to graduate this May, but accepted a co-op in Birmingham which is where I am now that pushed it back to August of 2011. I couldn't find anything wrong with an extra semester in Auburn AND securing a job!

Engineer? I'm guessing here since you're co-oping. If so, which firm? I'm in structural steel and work with several of the B'ham firms now and then. Have fun and make the most of college. Enjoy while you can.

So you are running no cats, dual pipes to a muffler, and Y piped after the muffler? Huh..

Sorry, guess that was somewhat confusing. The system is stock, without the rear cats. The exhaust appears to be the Magnaflow cat-back kit that attached to the factory single pipe behind the cats. This system:

I think that will clear it up for you. Basically it's stock exhaust, cat-back system added, rear cats removed.

Thanks,

David

Actually Supply Chain Management (College of Business). I am working for Southern Nuclear at their HQ here in Bham, they are the subsidiary of Southern Company that manages Alabama Power's and Georgia Power's Nuclear Plants.

And oh yeah, being in the CoB definitely allows me to enjoy college, and believe me, I do!

My 18" magnaflow is very tame. It's the lack of cats that it causing the problem. Maybe he should put some hi flows on cause I am not sure another 6 inches of muffler will do the trick?

Either way would do fine, the Magnaflow 94306 would be my only cat suggestion to install in its place.

So, do the cats, or change to a 24" muffler? Right? Same, same? Think I'll try the 24" muffler first, then if need be, I'll add the hi-flow cats.

Where to get the cats?

Thanks again guys,

David

I am no exhaust expert and with respect to emperor Darren based on your original post I think you will still experience louder cabin noise and drone even with the 24 inch. With cats and a 24 inch I think you will be back to a stock sounding truck. Just my thought. I swapped my muffler out myself and while it was off I rev'd it a few time just for fun. I was not near as loud as I would have expected. The cats really do more than you think although hi flows would be louder than stock cats.
