Ok because some exhaust shops have been telling me it might not be able to be done...do you have true duals?

I don't, I have a si/do system I had my local shop do. True duals eliminate the factory y pipe that comes off the manifolds. It can be done and is extremely common. Basically one pipe per manifold and one muffler per side. It is best to use to si/so mufflers and then an x or h pipe to keep the balance in the two banks and protect your low end. What are your goals with true duals?

Hello.

For starters run away from any shop who has doubts - you don't want to be a guinea pig of sorts. Find a shop who has done this a number of times.

It's common, but must be done correctly and sized correctly. If you are after preserving ( or even enhancing) bottom end, ALL components should be optimized for that goal. If fer noise only does not matter so much.

Basically true duals when set up properly will give you a nice increase in performance. The ideal set-up for true duals on these motors is 2.25" true duals with an x pipe and straight through mufflers. Now you want it loud and aggressive, I would recommend a set-up that is gainly muchj popularity here. Go 2 magnaflow hi flow cats (94106 sound like no cats, and then 94306 are 20-25% louder than the stock cats) 2.25" piping, an x pipe as close to the original factory y location as possible, into 2 12" dynomax race bullets, and the exit how you like. You tow a boat, so I would exit the system 45'd behind the rear wheels so that it does not bounce off the boat and drive you nuts. Here are some vids

If you want loud all you need is MagnaFlow cats and where the Y ends 3" tube in to a si/do muffler exit out in side of wheel. I have that set up with a Flowmaster Supper 44 and it is very loud. I will post the link.

is there a way to get it pretty loud without putting high flow catalytic converters on it? would it be louder if i go from the stock 2.5" pipes and get 3.0" pipes put on it?

Nope, not at all possible under these trucks with plenty of pipe room.

. As stated, find another shop that doesn't have lazy employees.
