Volant air intake

Ok here we go,It was time to service my filter on the volant intake so I decided I would get the new filter thats good for a 100000 miles and didn't need to clean or oil it.(That would be the Volant Power core filter) I installed it a week ago and my gas mileage has gone from 16 mpg. down to 11-12 mpg on a good day. Should I take the lid off the intake and try that or just put the other one back in.Seem like its straving for air and don,t have the power it had. Also have a Edge Programmer thats what telling me my mpg.I paid a lot of money for the filter I sure would like to use it (80.00 plus dollars) Thanks
