Should I change things up?

Once again I'm bored with my exhaust setup and don't know what to do. I think my truck sounds great but I still wish it was louder and more aggressive. Right now I've got high flow cats, 3" intermediate piping, Magnaflow 14" SI/DO oval muffler, 2 1/2" smooth bent tailpipes (not mandrel), and 4" x 18" tips straight out the back. I want to change the exhaust exit from straight out the back to 45'd behind each rear tire for sure and I figured what the heck..... might as well change things up while I'm at it. I do plan to remove my entire system as it is just in case I like it better but my question is this....... which muffler should I go with if I decide to try something new?

I loved the sound of the Flow 40 I had on my '03 5.4L screw so I'm really thinking of trying a Flowmaster on this truck. Now I know some say that there is a performance loss with Flows but I'm not too worried about that -- when I want to go fast I just hop in the other car for a little while. Which one should I try? I'm thinking a Super 44. Would it be louder and more aggressive than the 14" Maggie I have on there now? I'm not worried about the WOT volume since I'm very rarely at that level of acceleration. I mainly want it louder during normal acceleration which for me is about 2.5K and below. That setup would consists of high flow cats, 3" intermediate piping, Flow SI/DO Super 44, and 2 1/2" mandrel bent tailpipes 45's behind each tire with 4" x 18" tips.

The other thing I'm thinking about is running true-duals. Now the only thing I'm not sure of here is the fact that it'll be harder to return to my existing setup and I've heard some true dual setups w/high flow cats that don't sound that great IMO. I definitely don't want it very "rappy" but I don't mind a good rumble -- if that makes sense.

So what should I do..........

Well you can view my 40 series in my signature. And here is the best example of a Super 44 with High flows that I can find:

LincolnMarkLT20's Super 44

I pimp his sound almost as much as I do mine, lol.

Edit:

Here's mine in the thread to make an easier comparison.

I've watched that video so many times it's crazy.

Comparing the two videos the Super 44 sounds a little deeper than the original 40 to me but it could be the location of the exhaust exits.

im looking into a weld in muffler myself. im considering a flowmaster. i had great sounds out of them in the past. i used the magnaflow magnapacks on my 96 cobra and it sounded great. what about a 50 series flowmaster? i think those have a more deep tone if i recall?

Hey man... I am picking up the 94106's very soon. Was the interior volume increased much at all?

I agonized over the choice for a long time because I couldn't figure out which one I liked better on youtube. I ended up choosing the 40 based on two things: (1) I know the 40 sound based on past ownership, and (2) AVFROG stating that the 40 was a little deeper. His statement agreed with what I was thinking and that sold me.

Anyway I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I know one thing. Mine is LOUD. My wife took me to pick up my work car the other day. She pulled out in a 30 mph zone and I could still hear it through the concrete block building until she was about a quarter mile away.

Some on acceleration but very little on cruise. You probably won't hear it with the radio on.

Right on. A bit louder inside and a LOT louder outside.

Thanks for the vid. I've seen it before but couldn't find it last night. Compared to the video below I think your truck sounds a little better and I really really like the idle.

Here is the video I'm talking about:

I know that the 5.4L in my truck is a completely different motor but it still gives me a good comparison since the other truck is running pretty much the same exhaust as me.

Jeeze, you just got your exhaust re-done weeks ago!

It sounds like your the kind who likes a little rumble in cab. Shorten your exhaust by having it exit before tire?

As for Flowmaster, go for it, but get STAINLESS! And actually, if you want some more noise, and a interior hum, check out the new Super 10 series. a 6" SI/DO 1 chamber.

Its a very new release, barely a month old. Be the ginney!

I know, I know. I just can't stop trying different things out. Like I said I really like what I've got now simply because it's very deep and smooth but at the same time I want something louder with more rumble. I thought about trying a round magnaflow or even a pair of SLP LMII's exiting before the rear tire but I just don't know if a straight through muffler is going to give me that rumble that I'm after. From what I've gathered a straight through muffler is going to be quieter at idle, louder at WOT, and have a smoother tone throughout the RPM range. On the contrary a chambered muffler is going to be much louder at idle, louder during normal acceleration, and have a more "rumbly" tone throughout the RPM range. Does that sound about right? If so I think a chambered muffler may be what I'm after.

That Super 10 looks pretty sweet. Wonder how loud that little dude would be?

On another note...... I'm going through the same thing with the Stang as well. I just took the Borla Stingers off and replaced them with a set of Boom Tubes which are essentially muffler deletes with louvers inside the tips (similar to the louvers inside MBRP mufflers). Those things sound incredible! I'm looking at long-tubes and an off-road h pipe for it right now as well.

I really don't like the sound of the supper 44 with hi flow cats. Too raspy. Org. 40 has the best tone and rumble, period.
