Exaust options for my 05

I have a 2005 stx with a 4.6 I belive i currently have a flowmaster super 40 on my truck with cat back system but i cannot tell for sure as there is nothing there that says flowmaster.... I like it but i kinda want something lauder if its possible but i dont wana go strait pipes or anything like that

BUT the deal is, is that it is rusting away its getting some holes in it and such and want to start thinking about getting a new one....

I WANT WHAT EVERYONE WANTS! i want know whats most affordable sounds good and raw and will have decent longevity thanks for your input and i know I can prolly find this thread in the search but for some reason my search has NEVER worked swear idk why but it doesnt so help me out

Your muffler is not a Flowmaster if it doesn't say flowmaster on the muffler...

Anyway... Cheap and longevity?? Cheap would be aluminized steel pipes and a bullet muffler. Longevity would be stainless pipes and a stainless muffler. A good sounding but lesser expensive muffler, would a magnaflow.

I got up under the truck and on the top side of the exaust it does say flowmaster... and then the patent numbers 4574914 4809812 5123502 5444197 and fgn patents if that helps figure out what is on there now i would like to know... i dont belive its the kit because one its not stainless obviously cuz its rusting away after only 5 years (i bought the truck with it btw) and i have 3 inch silverline stainless tips cut at a 45

It should just have a part number on the side of it somewhere.

the muffler isnt looking pretty but its not nearly as bad as the pipes... especially where the tips are put onto the pipe...

I like the way I have it now with the cat back and the muffler acting as my y pipe.... ive been watching alot of videos on youtube of strait pipes and really contimplating it i just dont want to loose power or have it crackling and **** all the time... and since everyones opinion on what they hear is diffrent I cant really get a strait answer....?

So ill unless someone can convince me that the strait pipe would be good ill keep looking into a cat back system

any thoughts on cat back system or strait pipe?

I think you would lose fuel mileage going with a straight pipe.
If you want a great sounding cat back look at the roush off road
or a 14 inch magnaflow si/do muffller and hi-flow cats

The Patent number does not help at all, Thats only its copyright.

Look on the inlet side for an engraved 6 - 7 digit number, beginning with a 9 most likely.

And Flowmaster did not offer stainless kits until mid 2009, before then it was all aluminized. So if its older than 2009 its very possible to be a Flowmaster kit, but your 1yr warranty would be over so its not their reliability fix now, but since you bought it with it there was no warranty anyways.

You can replace it all with fresh pipe from an exhaust shop and put a Dynomax Bullet in for more volume.

You shouldn't loose power or mpg with a straight pipe set up. There are a lot of people here that run straights and love them.
