Need Recommendation on exhaust system

I need some help. About 3 years ago I got true dual exhausts put on my truck. The shop didn't do a great job, because the pipes from the mufflers back rusted off last year, and just yesterday the pipes where the mufflers connect rusted off. So right now i have 2 pipes with no mufflers comming for the cats. I was wondering what is my best option for power. I called a local muffler shop, which comes highly recommended from just about everyone I talked to and explained my situation. He told me that my best option would be to just get a DI/DO magnflow muffler with internal x. I told him that I thought having the x before the muffler was better. He told me that it was up to me, but the cheapest would be to go with the DI/DO magnflow with the internal x. I'm not too worry about the price, I just want a system that gives the most power. If anyone can offer some good advice I'd greatly appreciate it. I got an appointment for thursday to get the work done. Thanks for any advice.

You are correct! The farther forward you can get that X pipe the better. Ideal is about where the factory Y pipe was. As far as mufflers... Any straight threw design is best for achieving maximum exhaust velocity and the strongest torque curve. That being said, there are a lot of these type's of mufflers, and they all have a different tone and sound volume.

So, what are you looking for in sound? Straight pipe sound but toned down a little, or a more mellow, deeper, more "tuned" sounding exhaust?

Well since I have kids, I don't really want anything too loud. So I guess a more mellow deeper sound, but when going WOT would like to hear some power. I'm not sure where my factory y pipe was at. I guess I'll tell the guy to put and x pipe as close to the CATS as he can. As for muffler like I said I want something that would give the best power, and not sound all droned in the cab.

And I would do a si/do. I know you want max performance, but true duals will have more interior drone. I would suggest exactly what Av has said. I would have the mid pipe upgraded to 3" and then have the muffler be a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets. Good low key sound, with a nice tone when you give it some gas. Good luck

You could also go with 14" oval's from magnaflow. They would be similar to these Borla Pro XS mufflers. These are not true duals, but you get a taste of the borla tone. Same mufflers as mine, but with stock cats.

Just let us know when you have decided on what muffler or mufflers you want to get. We will get part numbers for you, but we will also suggest that you buy the mufflers online to save some cash!

So DI/DO would produce more power then SI/DO? If this is the case, I can live with some drone in the cab.

Also does muffler shops allow you to purchase the muffler somewhere else? The price he quoted me for a cat back DI/DO with stainless steel tailpipes and tips was $520 and $465 for not ss tailpipes. Is this a decent price?

They should let you. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't. 90% of people on here go this route. As far as true duals making more power... A little more mid range, but not enough to consider more drone. I really don't think that true duals are much more noisy inside though.

Av I like the sound In post 7, what would be the magnaflow part number on that type of muffler. Is that a SI/DO out set up with an X Pipe?
