This is really hard to say. It has been my experience that most exhausts rust from teh inside out, due to the moisture, that is a result of combustion. The paint will keep teh outside looking better, and may help to soem extent.

Heres the deal guys- If you wanna buy this system, go for it. Mine lasted about 3 weeks before it started to rust and the finish go to crap. I have had an aftermarket exhaust installed on my last 5 vehicles. They were all installed by my same isntaller who is a local garage. He uses aluminized pipe, stainless Silverline tips (style is up to me), and muffler of your choice. I have never had any of these exhausts rust. NONE OF THEM!!!! His tips are prolly some of the best tips I have ever seen as far as durability. They are $45 each for stainless. Total cost he charges me is $375 + taxes = $397.50. That price includes a lifetime to origianal owner warranty.

With this ebay kit I paid around $235 + installation (because I was unable to install myself) = $320 + 250 (another set of tailpipes and tips to replace the corroded and rusted ones I have now, and install) = $570. You do the math and buy what you would like to from there. Just giving you all a truthful and informative opinion about my experience. There you go, Have a great day!

The aluminized pipes, no matter what the brand, will rust on you. Stainless will discolor, but should not rust. I bought my Magnaflow catback, which had been used by someone else for almost two years, and it has zero rust on it. The exhaust that was on my truck for 6 months using aluminized steel pipes (flowmaster muffler, aluminized pipes) looked twice the age of the 2 year old stainless system.

So a more fair comparison would be to compare it to Flowmaster's catback systems, which use aluminized steel mufflers and pipes and cost like $450 or so but will not outlast the $250 "Magnaflow special" in this thread.
that Comparison was deliberately posted in that left-field manner for sake of argument
. i guess i should of been a bit more straightforward. somewhere along the lines of "same ****, different smell" category

My point being is that...
1. the life of ANY exhaust system depends on the environment it is used in.
2. the saying "if its cheap, its not good quality" does not always poor products.

I said from the get go that I not anyone else, but I was unable to do this kit. I also responded back to Jim almost as soon as he sent the first email. Jim contacted me, explained his thoughts and feelings, I explained mine. We are in the middle of discussing this deal. Where do you come into the middle of all of that, deciding what kind of skills, tools and workspace I have? Whats going on with the rusting tips is that I was sent a set of cheap tips that lasted a VERY, VERY short time. As far as not pleasing everybody all the time, I said I was not dis-satisfied with the deal, I got just what I bought - a cheap exhaust. The ebayer was excellent and his comminication was great. I should have bought from my local guy, cause once all is said and done I will have that much tied up in the exhaust anyhow. And making the comment "thanks Ford for making these trucks impossible to sound good without ripping out cats", hardly sounds like I am "pissed off" at Ford.

Sounds to me like maybe you ARE Jim from magnum exhuast and you on here trying to rack up buisiness. My god your defend him well, are you his brother or something? ROFL, Lets see if you feel that same way after 2 months with your new exhaust! ROFL Oh, I forgot, you are gonna take that extra step of buying paint and completely painting the system yourself to prevent that. Sorry, that was left out of the instructions on my kit!

Sorry I gave my opinion on this exhaust and hurt your feelings about your new buy. Just remember, a piece of Zhit with a lot of cologne is still a piece of Zhit!!!

This thread just makes me want to buy from this guy even more. Someone had a bad experience, but he is a good honest seller, knows his products, and is fair to his customers. That's extremely rare in my book. And rusting in two weeks?? That makes me question the integrity of the install. But let's see what happens for some other people then I will decide.

I can assure you that I'm not Jim. I do appreciate all that you have contributed in this thread. Honestly, I wouldn't be painting the exhaust if you didn't raise the rust issue and I thank you for that. And if my system does end up rusting... oh well, that's what I get for not spending the extra money for a stainless steel system. I'll post any issues I have with the exhaust and let the next potential buyer decide whether or not they want to buy the system. And if the paint doesn't work, I hope the next guy has a better idea.

The goal here is to get a good sounding exhaust at a good price, even if I have to put in a little work into it myself.

Peace, I am sorry. Good luck with your exhaust

And heres the last email that I sent to Jim that I am waiting for response, that was not included in the above -

Dear magnumexhaust,

Like I said before, once I get the money to get them taken off and the new set installed Ill contact you and we can get something arranged. I will however say this, I have no idea how you expected an exhaust tip that you only charge $30 for the set to be able to be high enough quality to last. Maybe you get a super discount or something, but it has been my experience of owning many exhausts in the past that not one set of quality tips were less than around $30 EACH. I realize that price does not make quality, but quality does make price.
