I installed a cat back exhaust on my 79 F-100 years ago and it turned out good. I may attach the tips in a way that they can be removed if they rust.

It shipped on time and the tracking number shows that it will be here on Wednesday. I paid on 3/10, it shipped on 3/12, and I should have it on 3/17...
I would recomend taking the pipes to a good exhaust shop and having them copied with a good quality pipe. And I would also recomend getting a good set of stainless tips (silverline), and installing that stuff. Then I would sell the pipes and tips that came with the kit. That will still let you evaluate most of what you want to, and not have to redo the exhaust later. You could even sell the pipes and tips that you get with the kit to someone who doesnt care.

I am pretty interested in your results on this. I'm not buying the story that those tips corroded in a month and a half. If they did, then they obviously aren't what they are being advertised as. Ebay and paypal or your credit card company for that matter have entire departments dedicated to protecting shoppers/cardholders from getting ripped off. If you do get hosed... write some emails and they will make it right (just takes A LOT of patience)

I will get a couple today. I will take a pic of the black stains that WILL NOT come off, and I will try to get a good pic of the rust that is forming at the outer edge of the tip.

Im not trying to turn this into a "whoa is me, I got the shaft, please give me my money back". I am just stating and for warning you guys that you are getting EXACTLY what you are paying for, a cheap exhaust system to throw on your truck. For $100 more you can go to a local shop and have a quality system put on.

Here are a couple pics. The tips are dirty in the pics, but I wiped one spot clean just to show the rust and pitting. I purchased this kit on 1/17/10, so I lied, it has been closer to two months.

Drivers side wiped off a little

How does the rest of the exhaust piping look? Is that rusting too? I was looking at some carbon fiber tips that I liked, so if these tips don't work out then I might use the other tips.

Does anybody recommend anything that can be applied to the exhaust/tips that will prevent the rust?

I've installed similar systems, so if I can't install this one then my opinion would be that it's not a DIYer.
I am glad you see what I am up too. I didnt want you to think I was just cutting down your purchase. I wanted everyone to realize that your NOT getting a magnaflow quality system just because you get the muffler. Which i know when i bought the system myself that it was a lower quality. I just didnt expect it to be this poor of materials. The seller is a great ebayer as far as cummunication and shipping.

If we can't learn from each others experiences, then this becomes a show-off only forum and that would suck...

I'm going to contact Magnum Exhaust and ask them if they have any recommendations or comments on the rust/quality issue.

Thanks again for everybody's participation in this discussion.

Rob
