Price for exhaust system

I recently have been putting together pricing for an exhaust for my truck and know what the kits cost, but now am considering having a system built and installed at a custom shop. The sytem would be all stainless pipe and hangers as well as stainless welds with a 14" magnaflow muffler and stainless tips and is the only shop in this part of Maryland that has a mandrel bender. The shop is quoting me a price of $650, is this a good price or should I try to negotiate a better price .
Thanks,KennyD

That's a good price but remember, the benefits of mandrel bent pipe on a stock 9or ner stock) truck is minimal at best. The lack of mandred bends can easily be compensated for by increased pipe diameter, higher flow muffler, etc as compared to the oem system for example. Mandrel bend benefits are not seen until you reach 5000+ rpm, and how often does one see that really? But that is a very good price - assuming that includes installation.

That price does include install ,but I dont think tax . I wasnt trying to make a big deal of the mandrel bends thats just a point this particular shop throws out in their pricing. I have found that not many shops work with stainless ,and I know the kits are pretty simple ,but I dont have many choices with muffler size or exit options such as 45d at rear wheels.

What part of MD are you in? I live near Glen Burnie and had a shop put a Flowmaster delta 40, mandrel bent, dual 3.5 SS tips 45ed at rear wheels for 400. Not sure on the type of tubing, pretty sure it isn't all SS though, most likely aluminized.

I live in harford co.,the shop is on mountain rd., the name is mandrel bending solutions . I have gotten cheaper prices but they are aluminized and I want to go with SS .They also sell kits, but the kits dont come with SS hardware or tips and unfortunately to get all SS parts they need to be welded onto the pipes ,I also like the security of having everything welded instead of clamped.

Have you tried calling Tony's, its on Crain Highway. They are the ones that did mine, I never asked about all SS but they do weld everything, there is not one clamp on my system. Not sure if they would be cheaper but just another option maybe?

Go in there with a good amount of cash and I bet the price would drop some. Thats what I always do, usually get it about $50-$100 cheaper.

I was afraid of that. It seems like if it is out of their norm, they charge a lot more for it.

You can buy a Magnaflow kit from www.hottexhaust.com for $391.00 shipped to your door and no tax. Put it on yourself. I did mine in an hour and it sounds great.

I just got a quote for magnaflow si-do muffler, stainless pipes, polished stainless tips, exiting behind rear wheels on both sides, installed for $585. Insane Exhaust in Owings, Maryland. (Calvert County) Don't know where you're located, but that's $65 cheaper. I had a system done for my 06 there, and it was very well done.

I just had true duals put on my 02 Screw 5.4 for $600 cash at a true custom exhaust shop. Make sure you find someone who knows what they are doing and if possible see if they will give you a cash deal (usually cheaper). For the $600 I had the full attention of the shop owner who spoke to me and walked through all of my options for a good hour. My system consist of stock cats with 2.5 pipe in with 2.25 out, two Maggies with an H-pipe and 3.5 rolled Chrome over Stainless 18" tips. Wonderful growl and no rasp.

For what it's worth I got a lot of great advice from the guys here before going to the shop.
