SI/DO Magnaflow ?s

What's up everyone. I've been reading these forums for awhile and have found a ton of good information. I'm looking to change the exhaust on my '07 5.4 SC. At first I was set on a simple catback system with Flowmaster 40 muffler with duals exiting the rear. After reading comments on here and listening to a ton of sound clips on youtube I've decided I like the sound of the Maggies the best. I want a nice deep agressive tone but not a lot of in cab noise. The Flows sound too raspy to me too.
The problem is I have no idea which Magnaflow to buy. I don't think I need to go true duals as I'm mainly looking for sound. However I have also thought about adding CAI and tune so I'm not even sure about that. A local shop quoted me $300 and I bring the muffler of my choice. I'm down with that but don't want to buy the wrong muffler and it be too quiet like alot of guys on here have done.
I've read 40+ pages on here and still just haven't been able to find the right answers to feel comfortable making a purchase. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Darren, I'll look into that part number. Your truck sounds sick, btw.

For the kind of money your muffler shop is talking, you could just about buy a complete MagnaFlow cat-back system and do it yourself in an afternoon out in the garage. If you're even remotely mechanical and have just the basic tools (including a jack and some jack stands) it would be a relatively easy project. I'd be inclined to go that way instead having a local shop "chop and hack" a system.

By the way, if you're looking to minimize cabin drone you really can't go wrong with a MagnaFlow system -- they typically have a nice growl under acceleration that mellows out to a low rumble at highway speeds......

Yeah, you have a point on the cost although I didn't think it was terrible since it included stainless tips, labor and tax. Maybe it's because
I live in a college town and I'm used to getting raped for these types of services. The Maggie is $73 at Performance Peddler. It's the only shop I've talked to and will definitely shop around a bit before I decide to do anything.

Well, I spoke to a shop that used to do exhaust work and they told me they wouldn't recommend the shop I got the quote from because they see a lot of crappy work from that shop. They recommended a different shop so I called them. The dude quoted $300 for the entire setup, labor and tax, and muffler included. And he says he's got a 5.4 F150 and I can come listen to his to find out what I'd be getting. Sweet.

Thanks again fellas. This site kicks *ss.

Congrats. Hope you get the work done and are happy with it. The Magnaflow kits themselves come with the 18" body mufflers, so they are a pinch quieter.

Maybe on a 2wd, 4wds seem quite well enough to access underneath to me.

I just bought a SI/SO Magnaflow cat back for my 09 and its sounds perfect to me. I paid $391.00 with shipping from www.hottexhaust.com . Click on the coupon tab and enter veedub to get them for that price. This isnt my truck but mine sounds the same.

To get the stock exhaust off intact -- not necessary if you just want to chop it up into pieces......
