Back pressure?
Back pressure?
I have a 97' with the 5.4 that I cut the exhaust off right before the muffler, just curious if there is enought back pressure for the motor, runs fine except the typical rough idle. I plan on adding more strait pipe with a 45' and exciting out before the pass. side rear tire with a 2.5 to 4 tip. Will it hurt to run it this way for a while?

I think wikipedia explained it best. (I'm pretty sure it was wiki)
Someone replaces their exhaust from 2.5 inches to 3 inches (ricer for example), and notices a large performance hit. The person comes to the conclusion that the system is too free flowing and more back pressure is needed for the engine to work properly.
That's what the uneducated come to believe.
