Installed my Spectre CAI today...

I bought this set up from http://www.autoanything.com/air-inta...A4368A0A0.aspx for a $140.00 shipped. It took about 8 days to arrive at my front door. Everyting out of the box looked ok at first glance then I noticed some scratches dead center on the bend right in front of the motor. That wasn't a huge deal to me but if you have a super clean truck/engine bay I can see how that would be anoying.

As for the install it was sorta straight forward. I tried to take pictures but my danm digital camera crapped out on me. I will take some pic's of the finished project soon and post them.

In the directions it shows a different IAC (idle air controler?) than what I had on my truck, 1997 4.6L. That was no biggie, I just used my bench grinder (all I had) to shave the throttle body shroud to fit around the rerouting of the new hose. Other than that everything else went together just fine. I would suggest replacing the crappy hose clamps the Spectre kit comes with with those nice ones you can get at almost any auto parts store. The nice clamps will set you back about $10.00 each. I just love those clamps for their quality and looks but that's me, you will do just fine with the ones they give you just don't try and over tighten them. All in all it took about 2 hours due to a little extra shaving of the shroud and changing the hoses around a couple of times. I had no idle issues and she fired up perfect the first time. Took her for a short test drive and checked all the clamps one more time. Everything was good to go. For the $$$ I think it's a fine set up and would recomend it to anyone. Honestly if I found the, I think you guys call it the "Gotts" CAI I probably would have gone that route but I didn't and still the shiney stuff looks nice when I pop open the hood. I read some guys say they can hear a difference in the motor noise. I personaly did not hear any difference. I have an all stock truck until now and she is very quite. I WOT three or four times and maybe just maybe it sounded a little louder. It was not very noticeable at all on my 4.6L though. I will check my milage on my next 4 fill ups and report back hopeful with those pictures to. I average 13.9mpg city/highway combination and 16mpg all highway now.

K I had to resort to using my iPhone to take pictures...

Don't know if you can see it but this is the nice scratch it came out of the box with...

This is the rerouteing of the hoses I did. The directions called for a different application than the IAC that was actually on my truck. I shaved the Throtle Body housing a bit using a bench grinder cause that's all I had. It came out ok for me.

Thanks for the kind words

Now I'll check my MPG's over the next 3-4 fill ups and see if she does any better. I'll post what I find.

I just put the exact same intake in my 1998 4.6L. Looks great but I got a check engine light right after. Code P0306. Any ideas?

Re-set the battery, remove the negative terminal for 5min.

Thanks Darren. Worked like a charm. I realized I skipped that step during install.

that intake looks really sharp! If I didn't already have an Airaid, I would get that...especially for the price! nice.
